 Is There Such Thing As Good Software Reverb? |

Does a good software reverb exist? I'm running Cubase SX (1.05) on a Mac. Any got VST reverb, or is it a total waste of money?

I have your solution, I am also using Cubase. All you need to do is pull up your "Send Effects" screen. What you need to do is blend 2 reverb plugin's together. Cubase comes with 2 reverb plugins but they suck by themselves (Reverb A, and Reverb B). Open a slot on your "Send Effects" screen for Reverb A, then another for Reverb B. I usually set Reverb A on SMALL, and Reverb B on AMBIENCE. Also on the "Send Effects" screen set the master level of Reverb B lower than Reverb A master level. Then just enable all your tracks to recieve the Reverb Send Effects. It gives you a more natural reverb. Wha la!! jon website: www.kunari.com |

If there are decent outboard reverbs, then there is decent software. There's really no difference when you think about it.
The only difference is between the above and a real room or at least a real plate/spring. |

For DP, the best one I've heard is Altiverb. Not cheap, but was recently enhanced for the G5
http://www.audioease.com/ In the free realm, the Apple Matrix Reverb AU that comes with OSX. I also use Apple's Peak Limiter on my master fader. Also Ambiance http://www.smartelectronix.com/~magnus/ Check out http://www.osxaudio.com they have a chart of all the available OSX plugs and apps. Also they have a DP forum.

Yes, Altiverb Hurray!
There used to be some problems running Altiverb in Cubase (Some things you did lead to immediate crashes). But with the updated version I have experienced none of those anymore. The sound is excellent... |

I use True Verb from Waves. It is easy to customize and save your presets.

does anyone else dislike protools le's digirack reverb?
it sounds... cold altiverb has a much warmer sound to it, which i love, too bad u can't run much else with it as it's as hungrier as a hungarian at hungry jacks |

I dislike the Digirack Reverb too. Not just cold, but artificial sounding. But now I am having a great time with Space Designer in my new Logic Pro! Also, everyone says space designer is a CPU hog, but it seems I can run just as many space designers, if not more (without freezing), than I could Digirack Reverbs in Pro TOols before it would say "Not enough processing power to send audio to USB" or whatever. The Digi Reverb was (I mean is) a hog, as well as a cold shoulder it seems.
In the last month I have gone back to Pro TOols only to transfer old unfinished projects into Logic. Space designer sounds awesome IMHO - and I want to learn how to make my own impulse responses - there are a lot of neat spaces around the Brown campus
