Hi people!
I'm looking for a program that can slice beats and samples up and let you rearrange them. I know there are a lot of packages with this function- reason, etc but I have no cash. Looking for something free or nearly free. Any ideas? Thanks D. |

If you are set on the whole Free thing then all you really need is windows sound recorder and a lot of time. You'll be able to cut up the beats and then load them into a sampler or whatever.
You don't get much for nothing I'm afraid, well not if you are remaining legitimate anyway.... btw I'm not taking the piss!! basically a sound editor is all you need. |

You can use Sound Studio, Garageband and the Garageband loop creation methos available on the Apple Developer's site. This is practically free (iLife is $50 and sound studio comes with most macs) Add to that ProTools FREE and you've got enough to play with your loops to your hearts content. I would maybe add a MIDI keyboard controller (roughly $100 for a Keystation 49e)
Good luck Here are links to the above mentioned things: Apple Garageband and iLife Apple Loops SDK ProTools FREE! Sound Studio -------------------- lushbudget productions, ltd.

Thanks for the replies. That all sounds a bit grim. I have continually found lovely little free programs to serve a host of functions- soft synths, file converters, drum samplers, the works. I am not completely starting from scratch- I have tracktion, a microkorg (yet to be osx compatible) and a tascam Us-122 and condensor mic. It's all set me back a few bob and really don't need reason yet. I only want something that analyses the sound and segments it into little slices to be rearranged- not really keen on the whole garage band thing as not really what I'm after. To manually slice it is of course possible, but that defies my whole question.
Sad to hear there isn't some little gem out there! D. |
