M-audio Audiophile Usb, Causing kernel panic every time it's on Options

This is really frustrating. I just got a M-Audio Audiophile USB and haven't been able to use it yet due to the fact anytime its on and is connected to the computer it immediately causes a kernel panic. I've tried every way of connecting/powering it up, but nothing works. If I connect to my comp when its on; it panics. If I have it connected then turn on the card; it panics.

I've got the latest driver installed for it and have tried it on my emac, powerbook, and g4 desktop. Same thing everytime.

M-audio's website was worthless for finding any relative info so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

10.3.2
emac g4 1ghz
384 mb RAM

12" g4 1ghz
512mb RAM

512mb Ram

Hi. I have the same problem. I spoke to their tech. support and they sent me the following message. I have not tried it yet, as I am at work and my audiophile is at home. I am going to try it tonight. If you try it out today, post a reply to let me know how it went...otherwise, I'll report back when I have tried it. Here is there message:

It is sometimes necessary to completely remove a previous installation of
the packages and files that are installed with your m-audio interface. In
OS X, especially 10.3.x, the only way to safely remove all of the
components of an install is to log in as the root user, or to use the
terminal utility.

You may consider using the terminal utility to remove the previous
installation of the _ _ _ _. This requires that you be careful however, and
enter the commands exactly as stated. Unix, the programming language of OS
X, requires precision in its command line. Unless the command is entered
correctly serious damage can be done to your OS. Commands are case sensitive.

Do a search for m-audio and leave the results window open.

Open terminal ( applications-->utilities-->terminal ) and type:

sudo rm -R

Make sure that you type the space bar after the capital R, in other words:

sudo_rm_-R_file name

You can drag the file name into terminal from the search results window and
it will be correctly entered there. there must be a space between each
file, including the first one. Hit enter and you will prompted for your
administrator password. Please be aware that if you have more than one
m-audio interface, or have downloaded an m-audio driver from our web site
that the search will show these results as well. You don't need to delete
the other device or the downloaded drivers.

Only do this if you feel comfortable trying it. If you're careful it will
work fine.

I tried the full uninstall last night and it didn't work...I'm still getting the kernel panic. Tech support told me that it must be a conflict with other usb drivers that I have installed. The problem is I don't have anything "crazy" installed...an Epson printer and scanner, a keyboard and a wireless mouse. It's not looking good for this...I may have to return it.

Good news...they have a new driver out that fixed the problem. They emailed the driver to me directly, as it was just being finished while I was on the phone...so, the driver should be posted on the web site soon, if not, then let me know your email and I will forward it to you. I'm up and running now, which is great.

I've been cursing the same problem for the last two weeks so it's a relief to find out this is m-audio's fault. Tutton, is there anyway you can email me the driver as well...my address is ph@mothafu.ca (not a joke). My blood pressure would be much happier for it, nice website by the way.

I'm up and running now, which is great.

Have you got the audio connections working? I can only get the midi in working on my Mac. (emac, ox 10.3.2, 768ram)

I did get my audio and midi to work (although I had to go into the Utilities and open a program called "Audio Midi Setup" and make some changes there in order to get Garageband to see the Audiophile...but now everything works.

how good is the audiophile recording into GB?

if you could can i take a listen to a loop that your recorded with it.
a family member wants to build a little bedroom studio. she is 14.
i thought the audiophile would be a good buy for her, but haven't heard any recordings from it. of course she wanted to use GB and her ibook.

i will replay to myself. i went and bought the tascam us-122 for them to use. i liked that device the best out of all the 2 channel devices. rugged unit i would say. hope my opinions last in the long haul. well 10.3 picked it up on there ibook and that was that.

Hey Tutton, thanks for the tip with the midi setup, I was able to select the USB Audiophile for all the in and outs.

I to am using Garageband and Reason as well, but I still cant get the Left Input or Right input to work for my guitar input. I have midi working perfectly, but I cant get it to pick up my guitar. Have you any suggestions?
