The thing that is slowing the implementation of the G5 processor in their laptops is the big enemy of all computers...HEAT.
The G5 processor's greater power and speeds has the potential for generating a lot more heat than the G4 processor. That's why Apple has built the enclosure of the G5 towers taking heat dissipation and airflow as the number one priority. The front and back are mesh and inside there are nine fans to move a whole lot of air through the computer and across the heatsinks. If you've ever set a G4 powerbook on your lap for a long period of usage, you know that they get INCREDIBLY hot. Put a G5 processor in the same enclosure as a G4 powerbook and you could cook eggs on it, as it also cooks itself! |
