Yeah, I've got the two cables out to in, in to out, although it's funny, because buying only one cable was another newbie mistake I made and corrected before I posted my question. What's midi patch thru and autochannelize?

Look under the "Studio" pulldown menu. (I assume it's still there in DP 4.1 -- I still use 4.01 right now).
You'll see a selection in the list called "MIDI Patch Thru". Click on that. The box should open up and reveal 3 choices: Off, Direct Echo, and Auto Channelize. You should have "Auto Channelize" selected.

Yup, Auto Channelize was already selected. I guess I'm out of luck. Maybe I'll try Pro Tools Free when it comes out for X.

Ha! There was a new midiman driver available. Installed and everything works as expected. Thanks for the help, everybody.
