1:) You must have 9.2.2 on the same computer thats got Mac OS X - 10.2.6 on it.
Thats what my Mac Classic milieu is in OS X on my flatpanel iMac.
i.e I'm able to run OS 9.2.2 in classic mode within Mac OS X environment.
My imac is OS X boot only.

2:) Best is to install OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X on two separate physical harddrives.
As long as you format both hd:s as Mac OS extended ( hfs+ ) filesystem -
it doesnt matter wich one you install first.

3:) I strongly advise you to get at least the Mac OS X 10.2 CD.

4:) If you want play it cheap ( only one physical harddrive ) you can do it in this order.

5a:) Boot from your OS 9.2.1 CD holding down the C-key while rebooting.

b:) Use the disktool on the cd to format your harddrive into 2 hfs+ extended partitions.
Name them something good like, OS 9 & OS X.

c:) Install 9.2.1 on the OS 9 - partition.
When you're finished config your network & internet connection.
Go to Apples website and download the 9.2.2 update and install it.

d:) Boot from your Mac OS X 10.2 CD - like in 5a.
(you did buy the OS X CD:s didnt you??? )

e:) Install OS X on the OS X partition. If installer asks if you would like to install components
for Classic mode, you dont have to do it. ( You already have os 9.2.2 installed )

f:) After installing OS X run ALL the software updates for OS X.
The 10.2.6 combo update are the most important one.

g:) After this start the disktool in OS X, select your OS X partition and choose to
repair permissions. ( be careful you dont reformat this partition )

Now you're set to go. Whenever you boot your Mac & want to choose wich OS to start.
Just hold down the Alt-key while booting, you'll get a semi-graphic login screen allowing
you choose choose one of the partitions. After selecting appropriate partition just hit return.

One of the partitions will be selected by default. You can set this default in the "startup disk"
prefs panel in either os.

Try to boot from the 9.2.1 cd using method mentionen in 5a:). If your computer boot up on the CD, then you can install at least OS 9.2.2, on it

If you're computer wont -- then you're hosed.
Buying secondhand without the original cd:s, that accompanied the computer was stupid.
You might have bought stolen goods.
