I'm a recently migrated PC user and am new to audio recording using an ibook. When working with audio on a PC it's absolutely essential to regularly defragment the computer's hard drive (to ensure peak performance i.e. processor speed etc.). I'm wondering if mac systems require the same kind of maintenance when working with audio and, if so, which applications/programs would you suggest I use to perform this task (or any other related maintenance task)?

Yes, you should defrag your Mac hard drive regularly. It doesn't really have anything to do with the processor. It's just that the hard drive head has to skip around all over the place looking for pieces of audio files that should be line up nicely.
The best app for defragging a mac is Norton Systemworks. Here's a great deal on version 1.0, which is all you need if you're running OS 9.x: http://eshop.macsales.com/Item_MailList.cf...em=SYM072600421 |
