well... I must say that any software requiring floppy authorization (i know some still exist) came from developers of primarily PC software who are porting their software for Mac use. Otherwise, they would not have ever used floppies for authorization because I think most mac users are aware that the floppy is dead and zips and CD's are now the preferred storage media. And if this is causing you problems... then thank the PC guys once again ;-) I have tons of software and none use floppy authorization thankfully.

About running lots of plug-ins.
Buy lots of ram.
And buy a dual processor Mac for Logic.
Yeah it´s expensive, but it works and it it hardly ever crashes.
