this'll be easy for anyone who knows more than I do, which should be nearly everyone...

I'm using Cubase VST 5.1 on an IMac. MIDI interface/USB digital audio, etc. all under control. In other words, I'm able to record voice, gtr, midi, whatever with some success.

However, none of this is even remotely useful to me unless I can share it with other musicians I'm working with. Ideally, this means getting from the WAV or AIFF format I can get in Cubase to MP3. I have ITunes, but when I dump a WAV from Cubase into Itunes it's huge and sounds like sh--.

There are a gazillion or so sites w/ mp3 encoding freeware or shareware - finding something that works on the mac at all and telling the difference is beyond me.

My deadline is yesterday.

Recommendation, please? blink.gif

Using Cubase 5.1, i assume you're running OS 9?
Have a look to Audion (also works under X), it has Lame support (not bad, & fast), MP3pro, & its own encoder. N2MP3 is nice, too, IMHO, and it supports Fraunhofer.
There are also some simple freewares (working with drag&drop), using Fraunhofer, lame, or any other opensource encoders. Have a look to the "Soft" section right here on MacMusic, i'm pretty sure you could find something.
Good luck.

But the most important thing is the setting (vbr is nice).

Bye.
