 Dolby Surround In Os X? |

Just curious if anybody here does pro logic mixing, and what tools in OS X there are. So far I've been able to use MDA RoundPan and VBox (Peak) for just about everything, but some audio positioning and manual panner would be nice....

I haven't used any of Logic's surround features, but there is support up to (I think) 7.1 surround built into Logic Platinum, so that probably fits the bill for most uses.

It would be really nice if MOTU decited to put in Dolby Surround support in the OS X DP, but I'm sure if they were worried about it, it would have been in the last version :/
Sad really... Dolby Surround (Pro Logic/LRCS) is way more popular than 5.1 at this point (depending on the aplication obviously). Maybe if the rumors are true, and the new DP will support OS 9 VST's, The surround plugin at VSTCentral.com would work fine. -Chris |

Almost forgot, QuickTime6 now has,an ACC component. I haven't fully investigated because my video apps are still OS9. Probably have to have QTpro for encoding. -------------------- G-Dub

Unfortunately, AAC will not help concerning SRD (dolby digital), DTS, or even SR encoding...
Anyway you can "work" in multi-channel, untill your sequencer can output 4/6/8 channels at a time through any audio interface, and let you spatialize internally any track between them, in the way you like it. If you're mixerless, that is... Encoding is another story, IMHE. No matter what, you will need a license from dolby or dts to just encode your material with their proprietary format ($$$), and you'd better be carefull with this phase, as it's VERY controlled by laboratories and respective trademarks... I 100% agree with you all, it would be great to be able to encode for our personal & private use (hey, wanna hear my new 5.1 record on DVD? :-D ) and i'm pretty sure it's easily doable via a plugin (cf Dolby TDM&HD), but there is licensing issues under these, don't you think? As stated by Gdoubleyou, the only tool that i know of to do that under OS X is DVD Studio. PT6 & Dolby plug will probably follow next year. Maybe there are also some text-mode utilities ported from *nix, but i doubt. Anyone? Bye. |

Actually the Dolby logo/trademark is not required (for Dolby Surround / Pro Logic).. Technicaly, any sterio image will take advantage of Dolby Surround at some level due to the deisgn of the decoder. Also if you are a student Final Cut Pro can be had for $299. That's the cheapest way I know to encode.
