Hello guys
To make the long story short - I have basicaly 4 controllers 1) M-audio project mix ( using as main mixer) 2) MPD 24 Pad controller ( for drum sampler) 3) M-audio 61keystation - (basically simple keyboard controller) 4) Novation 49Sl Compact - (also keyboard with some extra buttoms) Anyways when all those controllers are activated in logic/preferences/control surface they work as one controller. For example - both keyboards controlling same thing - depending on which keyboard I play. What I’m trying to find out if I can assign one keyboard to VST on one track ,second keyboard to another VST on another track and possibly pad controller to third drum track - so for example 3. people can independently play 3. different tracks with their VST-s. With live instruments it’s a piece of cake - but in this case since all 3. named controllers have USB so I’m not sure how to do it? I did my research - went through all Logics Enviroment stuff, Even Logic’s 8 Controll surface guide but nothing has really helped me . If anybody has got experience with this chalenge I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks for your time. Milan |

sounds like you need to set the keyboards up so they are transmitting on different midi channels and instrument tracks to match. it is possible that the instruments are setup to receive on 'All' channels, so when you strike a key it triggers a sound on all the instrument tracks that are inserted ( not meaning to be condescending if you already have this set up correctly). Automation and parameter control on the other hand is just a bit more complicated; the SL compact should be a piece of the proverbial piss to set up, I thought that was the point of it (click a control; twiddle a knob) but the other control surfaces will require some more complex configuration in the logic environment and automation settings. My setup is very simple by comparison and i'm using an environment map that my friend had already set up to use my Microkorg and I just pasted it into my environment. I'm sure someone here will be able to point you in the right direction for an answer to this. Have you searched the other threads on this forum for any current info?
Sorry I couldn't beof more help Milca... VST's??? VST and Logic 8??? I lost all VST use when I moved from Logic 6. Whassup wit dat, a typo or does Logic 8 do VST now??? Hi Mac Daddy, must be a typo definately no VST's; at least not directly sometimes there still is a VST folder in the system directory and the plugs that havent been written directly as an audio unit, instead they aer ported as a vst and then an audio unit is written as a control interface. at least thats the way I understand it with my rudimentary knowledge. Yep I just checked to see that it hadn't gone since I last had to fiddle around in there, and its still there eevn has some quite recent plugs in there. There are however mny more in my Audio Unit/Components Folder. -------------------- Jeremy Glover graphic designer and compositor extraordinair but a relative novice at audio

Thanks qusp74,
When I saw the word: "VST" and Logic 8, I got as excited as a 17 years old Back Stage at an Areo Smith Concert. I thought: "How did I miss that"! Thanks for clarifying that this was NOT the case. I lost some great VST Plug-Ins when Logic 6 evolved to Logic 7. "Milca, what you talkin' bout"? I'm messin wit cha, don't go off on me. Be sharp, don't Bb. Yobrofosho, Mac daddy |

Well, MacDaddy, if you still have some killer VSTs lying about, you can use FXPansion's VST-AU Wrapper to get them active in Logic.
~$80 USD. Not bad if you already have an investment in some killer plugz. Much love and respect. peace. Here's the direct link to the FXPansion site for more info on how it works. V 2.0 is UB/Intel Mac compatible. BONUS! peace -------------------- |

Deaconsblue,
Do you have any personal/positive experience with the vst-au Wrapper. When I last tried it out ; around the time Mac Daddy is talking about, I found the latency to be pretty awful, something to do with the audio or midi data having to be 'parsed' twice I imagine (emulation is always a bit sticky). Havent given it a try since the new versions or after the event of me getting my G5 and a quality audio interface back then. If thats been sorted out (or the incresed power of computers and interfaces has made that a non-issue), then I might just have to give it another try because as you said $80 is great value to regain use of an investment made years ago. Mac Daddy, What were you doing backstage at an Aero Smith Concert?... throwing your panties at them and screaming? hehe Not sure what all those VSTs are doing hidden in there perhaps some audio/video editing apps havent migrated over to AU yet? I do remember that a couple of years ago I was receiving installers that wouldn't allow me to install just the Audio Unit and that if I tried to de-select the VST in the installer that the AU option would become greyed out. That; and some reading in SOS or something similar led me to believe/assume what I said before about the VST engine still being used to power some plugs while companies were still in the transition to going fully AU. Deaconblue,
You know or should know a Big Mouth Brother like me has the FXPansions VST-AU Adapter X Built for Mac OS X. I was the FIRST to have it in Hamburg. After all the money I have spent that little investment didn't even cause a second thought. (The only Software that ever caused me to tremble was Pro Tools and Waves) The fact that I LOST all VST's when going from Logic 6 to Logic Pro 7 screwed up all VST's. The main one was Steibergs Virtual Guitar and Virtual Guitar Electric Edition. The best Guitar Players I ever have known, never out of tune, never late to the "Gig" and no Hiss or Hum! qusp74, The Areo Smith remark was from South Park, it was said by Chef. As much as I like Areo Smith, I would never go to one of thier concerts... Just ain't cool enough for a brother from New York... Mind you, they can play, but has a brother EVER been to an Areo Smith Concert??? I never heard of one... I really only checked them out because of Run DMC. In fact, that was their biggest "Hit"... Hmmmm, "What they doin' now"? It's rhetorical... Couldn't care less, ain't my thang... In fact, the only music that is "My Thang" is my own music... and it sure ain't Rock... Besides Rock and DAW is an 'Oxymoron'... |

Besides Rock and DAW is an 'Oxymoron'... 8-) Amen, MacDaddy, amen... But mine is like a big digital 4-Track, so I have to fake it out every now and again. If I can just find a drummer that'll fit in my pocket size studio.... qusp74, I have used it and with V2 I haven't run into any latency issues, but I am using all my plugs in post, not at capture time. I can test with it in live recording to see if there is a drag on the system and/or latency. I'll post back when I know more on it. peace -------------------- |

Did you really think that I could picture you at an AeroSmith concert? I didn't recognize the Southpark quip but I DID know your were joking. It just seems that you didn't know that I was. Guess you haven't known enough Australians to know how facetious we are or at least known me long enough to know how facetious I AM. Some might think it a character flaw but I don't. And I do believe that the SPIRIT of Rock is still alive and well...See 'The chemical brothers ' 'Daft Punk' have either one of you ever seen these guys play live? The latest 'Daft Punk' tour here in OZ over Christmas break was unF#$KN believable they rocked out like nobodies business standing Atop a big ass Pyramid dressed in Robot costumes, triggering samples and power chords on the electronic AXE, with lasers bouncing off there robot suits. now if that aint Rock then I don't know what rock is obviously. Sure it may be a bit 'tongue in cheek' but hasn't the best rock always been? I agree, the rock that was Aero Smith and alike is well dead... just as its proprietors just about are. but the spirit of it is reborn in any truly anti-establishment album or lyric or.... I believe .... in anyone that creates music that the the record companies wont touch by spending their OWN time and money setting up their OWN studio and bucking the system set up by the powers that be. But thats just me. Deaconblue, No rush but I would be interested to know your results regarding AU wrapper and latecy. Don't go out of your way or spend to much of your time on it though. If I remember correctly you have a G5 too and not a Mac Pro don't you? so it'll be a good comparison for me. Any info would be much appreciated.
