Hi,

I just recently discovered this exciting world .sf2 files; and would like to use
them inside of Logic's EXS24 sampler. I've read the plug-in reference manual,
and I've even seen this subject on a post from a couple of years ago. Both
sources mentioned placing the .sf2 file inside of the Sampler Instruments folder
via Library/ Application Support/ Logic/ Sampler Instruments then open up the
EXS 24 and the file should show in drop down menu of the sampler.
Nah.... it hasn't worked. All of the other Sampler Instruments show but the .sf2
doesn't.

Can anyone who has used .sf2 files explain to me how they used them inside
of the EXS24? What could I possibly be doing wrong? I would really appreciate
any feedback on this topic. There' s seem to be very little information on how
to do this, if it's even possible.

Thanks,
derok

This is a case of "confusing interface" -- there are actually two drop-downs, and you're clicking on the wrong one -- you're clicking on the one that's next to the "Copy" button, when the one you want to click on is just below the Copy button (and just above the knob labelled "Cutoff".

EXS24 will convert the soundfont to a .exf file, though I'm not quite sure where it gets saved.

The folder you want to put it in is:
~/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/

You should put it in the one in your home directory, according to the Logic Express 8 Instruments and Effects manual (page 279).

Hope this helps!

Hey Wolf,

This is NOT an issue of "confusing interface". I've always utilized the drop down menu that
is underneath the copy button. This is the only way I could see the OTHER sampler
instruments except the .sf2.

Still isn't working.

Anyway, thanks for your response.

Derok,

I have each .SF2 file along with its accompanying .exs file in ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/. Please note that this is the *home* or user's library . . . if you put them in the HD library they will not be recognized. At least they weren't when I tried it a moment ago.

I don't know if this helps, but it works properly on my computer.

I have a problem... First thing this morning, I openned my Logic Sampler and noticed my strings were missing. Naw, I'm not talking about the "Logic" Strings, I mean my Garritan Orchestral Strings. I must have lost them when I went from Logic 5/6 ASIO, VST Days, when I got Logic 7, AU.

I did not realize it until today when I wanted to add "Strings" to a song. They (Garritan) were missing. No "Biggie", I'll just "Reload" the 3GB Library...

"You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read. To continue click Ignore or Eject" I "Clicked" Ignore. Nothing. Arrggghhhh!

I have already contacted Garritan, makers of Sample Libraries and am waiting for a Reply, but if anyone knows a "Trick" around this "Volume" issue "Please, please, merci, merci, lemme me hear it".

I was in such a great mood when I got up, damn "Upgrades".

Hey Ron,

Thanks for your help. I did try placing an sf2 in the ~/Library/Application Support/ Logic/Sampler Instruments/
folder and it WAS recognized in the EXS24; BUT the folders that were used are in HD Library...as a matter of
fact all of the EXS samples are in the Sample Instruments folder via the HD Library.

I initially started this thread because I was trying to load a Digital Sound Factory free sf2, that still isn't being
recognized by the EXS24. I would love to purchase these E-mu module sf2's that they have done, but
I am reluctant if they don't function inside of the EXS24. I would appreciate any comments from Logic users
who happen to be using these Digital Sound Factory sf2's. What working methods are you using in order
to use their sf2's? Are they showing up inside of YOUR EXS24? If not, what opitions have worked best for
using these DSF files in Logic.

Thanks to all for your help and comments.

"You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read. To continue click Ignore or Eject"

Remember, me crying like a little girl the other day, ok, always, anyway I had wanted to use these samples after having them installed almost four years ago, I open up Logic's EXS24 and they were missing! It happened when AU was introduce replacing ASIO and VST on MAcintosh OSX.

I put the CD 1 of 3 into my my G5 Dual 2GHz and I get: "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read. To continue click Ignore or Eject" Naturally I "Click" Ignore. Nothing except my pounding heart and tears falling.

I heard from Garritan , makers of "World Class" Orchestral Samples and they told me "Do, this and that" ALL WRONG. I called my "Wunderkind" and he told me how. I can't wait to share it with you, but, first I want to see if anyone knows how to get around this problem.

It's so simple it's funny. I wrote the guy at Garritan and told him he provided me with bogus information, I propositioned (Made A Deal/Offer) that is he gives me the latest Library I'll tell him what he really should already know as a Company Technician. They have been turning Macintosh users away for several years because, they did not know how to work with Macintosh. I was told they have a Mac Version coming out in a couple of months, I said, your Samples work with Mac...

I'll let you know how to get around the: "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read. To continue click Ignore or Eject" and also what happens with Garritan. I'm happy as a teenage girl backstage at an Areosmith concert. He-he-he-he. You know the James Brown song, "I Feel Good"? Well, "I Feel Better".

I'm letting you know in advance, if everyone knows this trick except me.... "Damn I'm Dumb"!

Open the EXS first before you insert the Disk, I had no problems converting several Akai format disks.

gdoubleyou.... You are 100% correct.... {Open the EXS first before you insert the Disk}

Yep, that's what ya gotta do...

If anyone wants sweet, warm and genuine 'Strings" without maxing out your HD (Some Libraries have 10, 20 or more GB's!!!!!! Even worse, you'll never use 10%... You know how it goes, you find a certain sound and you return to it again and again, otherwise you can spend days, weeks, months, years just "Listening" and not playing... I digress...

So, Members, if you were not aware you can AKAI Samples into Logic.

1- Open Logic, 5/6 or 7.

2-Open ESX24. On the "Right Side" of the ESX24 is an "OPTION" Button. "Click" Follow instructions. That's all. Too easy!

gdoubleyou... Very good Grasshopper, you have indeed demonstrated that you have become ready to venture from your studio and allow your wisdom and music live...

Thanks gdoubleyou...
