Hello everyone!

I register in this site whith the intention of getting help to find a sound hardware for my Mac.

I've been looking in the web, and all I find is soundblaster and creative products, all for PC!

My problem is: I'm doing reports whith my digital cam, and I record the sound whith MiniDisk! If I capture the sound by the analog channels I can't take the best of the sound, and I need to work them in audio programs. I would like to have "optical in" to connect the MiniDisk and capture the sound in digital!

If someone could help me, showing me a site or giving me a tip! unsure.gif

you will need to look for interface with optical input... right off hand, I know Digi001 has optical input and I think their are a few other PCI cards that offer this as well.

i suggest going to MusiciansFriend and do a search for audio interfaces in computer recording section. you should be able to find one there that will fit your needs and they are fairly cheap too.

An idea: use a battery powered condenser mic (two for stereo) with your cam. You can find special fixations (depending on your cam) so you don't pick up the cams motor vibration. Or fix a system on your head smile.gif Your cam records 16 bit digital which is sufficient (CD quality) if you don't need to potter with the sound after.

You may have a firewire out on you cam. In that case you can put your sound tracks directly onto your mac if it has the firewire connection too.

Need more info on your cam and mac!

If your Mac has USB ports, you could check out the Edirol range of audio interfaces - I know that the UA-5 has an excellent range of digital connections. Your choice of optical or coaxial, both for input and output. I don't know of many other products that offer both optical and coaxial - it's usually one or the other - plus it's only about £250. Edirol also do other cheaper/more expensive products that might feature optical connectors: www.edirol.com
