I just looked at the comparison chart- it looks like for scoring a film that GOLD does just as much as PLATINUM. I think Gold would be the best for me, not to mention it's cheaper.
But I heard that Logic Platinum won't be out for a month or two. IS THIS TRUE?!?!!? If so, will Logic Gold for osx not be out for even LONGER? If so, then I might aswell get PLATINUM! does anyone know an exact cost on it? it seems like it could be more than $750 ( though I hope not ). does anyone here in the OSX section use Platinum for os9? I'd like to know how long it takes to figure it all out. thanks. p.s. does anyone know of a cheaper film-scoring tool for osx? i've looked at bias deck 3.5 does anyone know how much that costs? and if it works fine for film scoring and midi sequencing with my Roland xp30 sounds? thanks again - jefffrr444o -------------------- "history repeats itself, so the best thing to do is rewrite the future"

Sure, if you can afford it get Platinum. Then there's nothing you can't do and there's nothing you'll be missing. It really is the cream of the crop for good reason.
Yes, it's expensive (c.£500 in the UK), yes it's complicated but yes it's amazing. OS X version available now (I've just started using it). I was using it under OS 9 before that, obviously. It's such an immense program that you'll probably nver master it completely and there are plenty of functions that I never use that other people probably use all the time. But I achieve everything I need to do, so that suits me just fine. Steep learning curve: great reward at the end! Bias Deck costs less, I'm pretty sure of that. Maybe £300? |

Deck is $399. from the BIAS site. bias-inc.com I have one an it works fine with OSX of OS9.2. MIDI apps are limited some what like ProTools.
Here's a blurb I copied from the web site. "Need a professional audio solution for film or video? With Deck 3.5, you can spot effects, edit dialouge, process soundtracks, record ADR-style voiceovers and craft complex mixes to stereo or complete 5.1 surround — all while in perfect sync to a QuickTime movie or DV clip. For music production, Deck 3.5 is a dream: It's stable, capable, and sonically superb, with up to four realtime effects plug-ins per track. Working in broadcast? Deck 3.5 is fast, easy, and a remarkably cost-effective editing platform. And, its broad range of audio tools include surround mixing, are perfectly suited to multimedia development — for video games, the Web, presentations, or whatever. With Deck 3.5, your creative potential is unlimited, thanks to its easy and intuitive user interface, scores of available plug-ins, and so much more. Simply put, nothing else gives you so much for so little." |
