New Garageband Petition..., Garageband petition Options

Not a slam against Apple or anything, just a few features some of us who like using GarageBand over Logic Express would like to see added to our favorite app. Go here if you'd like to sign it.

Not a bad idea at all. I seem to be able to do a lot more work, in a much more intutive way with Garage Band rather than Logic. It's just a better conduit for my sensibilities. I just put my John Hancock on the petition. Here's hoping that it comes to something.

Ok so Garageband is Garageband and Logic is Logic. If Apple beefs up garageband then how much more will it cost for these special upgrades? I mean I kind of feel personally that Garageband serves it's purpose. For folks who want to make music that couldn't before. Cut and paste jigsaw puzzle fun! Isn't that how Apple presented it in the beginning? Logic is a very powerful tool, even the express version. Instead of looking for an easy way step up! If all programs end up with everything but the kitchen sink. Where's the app for the person who just wants to amuse themselves or get their feet wet? Then all of a sudden Garageband becomes Logic so to speak no? Just a question and my opinion is all. I use Logic it is packed with amazing functionality and there are so many possibilities. Hey bottomline.. enjoy creating! Good day.

It seems to me that making GarageBand a 48k application is more of a hardware issue than software issue.

Hey, good comments man. I agree with you for the most part. I too use Logic on a regular basis. If anything, I guess in reality what I would love to see most, is Logic with a much more "Apple-esque" GUI. I for one, just really love how quickly I can move around and create within GarageBand. I just kind of wish Logic was more like that, while still retaining the high-end features. Maybe we will still see"Apple ProBand" someday? Or just a much more user freindly Logic would be fine.

" I play all my own instruments and what I like about this underrated, scoffed at program is that it stays out of my way. No, dare I say it..it even works with me! It doesn't get between my abstract or natural side (creativity). my analog /digital side (vocals, keyboards, guitars) and finally it seemlessly accepts what I give it and allows me to to work it without losing that spark of creativity that I started with.

Maybe it's not as powerful as Logic, but it's powerful enough for the music that exists in my soul at this point and time. Anyway just stop and think for a second... remember what the Beatles did with 2 TRACK!!!! Anything any of us are using today has got that beat hands down. Just check out the DVD on Tom Dowd (Amazon.com) to get a real appreciation for any of these sequencers that we use today. It wan't too long ago that it was the Dark Ages, man. Sometimes I think that inspiration and creation of music gets lost somewhere in the Programs, Plugins and Procedures.

I've used Sonar on PC, Reason, Live and out of all of them Garage Band fits me best. I don't care how uncool, unhip or rebelious to the Status Quo that makes me! Just call me an outlaw...

I didn't say garageband was a bad program. What I said or tried to say was that I felt each program had it's on characteristic that made it right for the right users. And if we took Garageband and made it more complicated with the upgrades petitioned. Then what would make Garageband any different from the others?

To be honest with you though, I really don't think that the upgrades we're asking for are all that "high-end" at this point though. 24-bit/48k is included with almost all other packages, and would not make things any harder for the "un-seasoned" user in any way. The only thing it would effect would be the quality of their recordings. 8-channel recording could be called a more "high-end" feature and we saw apple include that with the most recent version.

I'm a big fan of this forum. The exchange of ideas and help is outstanding. Now, I don't use GarageBand, but I've been following this thread with interest, as I have others like it. And everytime I do, there's something that scares the hell out of me.

There seems to be an undercurrent of people with the latest and best stuff that look down on those that don't. By that I mean, if you're not using THIS software, THIS computer, THIS mike, THIS sampling rate, THIS bitrate, THIS synth, why, your work is not professional, even no damn good. I've seen it time and time again.

All that matters is what comes out of those speakers, not how it got there or what tools were used.
