The Mini Mac appears to be a market testing exercise - its features are more like a home entertainment processor hub, which puts it head to head with a large array of PC-based "mini" products - cute, but... ... what many of us have been dreaming about is a similar device for semi-mobile pro audio/video production. I imagine a unit about double the size of the current Mini Mac, packed with G5 processor punch and hi-bandwidth i/o on all slots. A unit that is compact, quiet, that can sit 1U in a 19in rack, controlled from your existing G4 Powerbook. Another way of looking at it is like a mini hi-speed Audio & Video Data Processor / Server. :  If we want these sorts of devices -and my guess is that there must be a lot of people who do - then we need to "remind" Apple about the things we want - constantly. At the end of the day they are realistically the only company who can fullfill these sorts of "user desires". If the market response is strong enough for this "babe" then there might be hope for pro users yet!  We're one step closer!

We need node G5 computers: G5, enough RAM in (it can be soldered), small yet reasonably fast HD, Ethernet GB, no CD/DVD drive, stackable. And a separate power supply to power a number of these. Market: logic users, any software in audio, video, 3D, DTP that needs bit crushing so editors have to follow in xgrid. rounik Just like iLife '04... all new computers will come with iLife '05. Not sure about different OS X's though... does anyone know if Tiger will have an option with iLife?

We're one step closer! I find it staggering that people always try to take entry level gear and turn it into some pro level screamer. Man, if you want a processing heavy weight that fits in a 1u 19" space. Get an XServe. Right tool for the right job Scott

I have a question...
The Mac mini is the answer I've been looking for to get my boyfriend to swith from PC to Mac. I've gotten him to fall in love with GarageBand which would be a major application he would use if he got a Mac mini.
Here's the problem... I noticed that it only has a headphone jack and no audio in jack. How is he supposed to connect a microphone (or guitar) to record into GarageBand?

Thats great, lepetitmartien - it looks like you're "off the planet" on this one in the same way I am! The G5 iBook is reportedly in production now - its not a "node" but its something... Anyway, the Mini Mac - as it is - could prove a useful device for smaller projects - there are already new topics on this now.
