I know that there are a few threads here about Mac programs that are comparable to FruityLoops, but none really answer my kind of questioning.

I primarily used FL to compose and sequence music tracks. I don't use a keyboard or audio interface, I just used the software that came with FL to make beats for my band. What kind of Mac programs are comparable for this purpose? I'm basically looking fora tricked out drum program and sequencer that has a compositional aspect. I could "draw" in notes with FL, and that's the most-used aspect of the program for me. Can this be done in GarageBand? I am looking for something easy, cheap, and quick. My fear with GarageBand is that the samples all suck... is this true? I'm running a refurbished (but new) iBook G4 with a ton of external hard drive space. I don't want to buy a midi keyboard if I can avoid it. ANy help would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks
