whats up people,
Im a newbie who just copped a G5 dual processor logic pro 7, the motu 828mk2 and have the mpc 2000. ive been trying for weeks to use my mpc as the master to no avial, i had nothing but erractic responses.
Since then i switched to using the logic as the master and the mpc as the slave and now my erratic problems have been solved. But i still aint able to record no wave form after i arm the tracks and check my signals. Everyhting is their and i see and hear my sounds in the mixer within logic but it just gives me a trapped car engine type noise when i try to record. it only was succesfull once when i hit record halfway through play mode, and i havent been able to get that to happen again. If i que it up from the top i just get that noise and no signal wave being recorded even though i see the signal in the track and hear it no pproblem
Since im using the motu828mk2 as my interface should this piece be setup as a sympte connection in my midi utility setup or what? im thinking this may be the problem as even when i take out the sounds from the mpc i hear the engine noise(only when i try to record) which is either internal or triggered from the motu.
Again my setup is G5 with logic pro 7 going thru the motu straight to my mpc midi in and my analog outs on the mpc going to into the motu inputs which in turn is connected via firewire to logic.
If you got any suggestions, scream at me.
Peace

Peace People what's up,
Pllleeeeeeeaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzeeeeeee! If someone can help me I'm getting desperate over here. Either I go sailing out my third story bldg window or my mac does, I can't take it no more, I'm cracking up! (Actually probably me,cos my computer aint paid off yet)
Anyway, FYI I just updated the driver for my motu 828mk2 to be compatible w/tiger osx 10.4 whatever, and yes I did reboot. Which doesn't seem to make a difference in my problem........
Well this is what's happening....... Everythings looking lovely, I got my mpc hooked up as the master to the G5 dual temporaly as a slave, my sounds all ready to go. I hit play on the mpc I hear everything, but I aint seeing no signal in logic???? Huh????? (Pro 7.1 by the way)
Logic's stop and start is responding to my mpc fine and and the clock is running as well as the scroll bar, again sounds are no problem but no signal. Check in the mixer, same thing???? Arm all the tracks ready to record to see if it makes a difference and get a trapped constant echo of one of the sounds and STILL no signal. So I'm like huh????
Then I go to my mpc etc hit on the pads and alas! Theirs my signals jumping!! So it seems like in external play mode or tracking I can hear but I can't see. And in recording I'm getting a headache, still with no signal or recorded wave, actually when I try to record the scroll bar/ruler then dissapears too?? Huh???
Not sure if this makes a differnce but in my transport window to the far right I get x2 as the input and below that "No out" Again folks huh??????? I went through my syncronizations back and forth and its set up the best way I know how which is basically the G5 reading MTC via the motu (sympte) to the mpc which is also MTC at a 25 frame set which is also set in logic. And on top of all that my computer seems to be running slow for some reason like theirs a delayed response when I select anything with the mouse cursor, its erratic and frustrating.....
From what I understand my G5 should be more than able to handle everything. Its a dual 2.0 processor with 180 gig hd, a second additonal 120 gig hd and 1.5 gig of ram. And I aint got nothing else running except motu and logic. Again huh?????
This is my first computer in the studio, and man I now remember why I stuck to hardware for so long. I aint about to quit on it but plllleeeeeaaaaaaazzzze can someone show me the light!
Thanks and much respect

Hi everyone
First of all let me just say thanks to all of u who participate in spreading your knowledge to newbies like myself, its appreciated.
Well basically I'm a pre-newbie who never even used a computer in the studio before. My setup has always been a Mpc2000, a Fantom keyboard, a old Alesis q6 keyboard, turntable and a digital hd recorder the roland vs1880. After months of shopping around and debating whether to go with pc or mac or to go with protools or cubase. I decided to jump in the deep end and two weeks ago took on the challenge of going with Logic Pro 7 with a G5 dual 2.0 w/180 gigs hd and additional 120 gig hd, 1.5 gig of ram and my interface is a motu 828 2.
And this is where I need your help configuring everything. So far I have managed to install the program install the drivers for the motu on the mac so it is being recognized. As u may know the motu only has 1 midi in and out, so I connected my mpc's first midi i/o to it as I'm planning on still using the mpc as the controller thru mtc(I know that logics sequencer may be better but I will look into that later, for now I just want to dump allot songs I have made already) My fantom is going to slave off of the mpc's second midi i/o as a sound trigger. The thing is prior research told me that I could also use my old alesis as a midi controller for logics internal instruments which I'm very excited about. The thing is I've run out of midi connections.
Questions
1) Does any of the above make sense?
2) How do I implement the alesis as the software trigger with no availabe port I have left? It doesn't have a firewire connection either?
3) Should I daisy chain it thru the midi in between the mpc and motu?
4) If so how?
5) Am I right to believe that the only connection needed for my the G5 so it can receive everything including analog and midi, is a firewire connection in the back?
6) Taking into consideration my setup and what I'm trying to achieve did I get the right interface going with the motu 828 2?
7) The mpc takes up six of my analog inputs in the back of the motu seprating my samples, since ultimatley I want to track each sound to its own track in logic. Should I then also run my fantom trigger sounds out seperatly or is stero fine? I'm assuming I can seperate them later for fine tuning in logic
Btw I can hear all my analog inputs in the back of the motu and the mpc and fantom are talking just fine. Its just now getting those signals into logic and setting up my trigger for the internal instruments.
I thank you in advance for your feedback, just browsing the forums I have learned allot already. Eventhough everybody says I'm nuts for going straight to logic pro 7 as a newbie I'm trying not to be intimidated by the learning curve. The possibilities my new setup brings keeps me reading and playing around with it even though I haven't been able to be creative anything for two weeks...
Cheers,
D.
