Hi everyone,
Having heard on this forum (on an earlier topic I started) that an iMic is not the best solution to record instruments whilst monitoring them live....I was wondering if you guys could suggest any USB2 or Firewire ex. soundcards for my iBook G4 that I could use in Logic Express 7 or Garageband that WOULDN'T have the same poor latency problems I am experiencing with my Griffin iMic - I just can't use it the delay is so bad! Is it possible to get a firewire or usb soundcard with zero detectable live monitoring latency?!? Any pointers to products no more than £100 2nd hand (yes I know its a tight budget!) would be great! Many thanks, Anderz

Hi,
I recently upgraded my ibook to ~700mb RAM and bought a 2nd hand iMic. Problem is that I experience pretty poor latency when monitoring the recordings live. Is it my ibook or imic that is the cause of this latency? It's bad enough that I can't use Logic Express 7 (as I play live piano and the delay drives me mad) and garage band is just a fraction better. Is it the cheap iMic to blame - hope so - cheaper to replace than an ibook!! Would i be better off with a more expensive soundcard? Any help would be great! Thanks, Anderz

Hi everyone,
I'm a complete newbie to using macs, let alone using them to record multitracked music. I am used to using windows PC's running Sonar or Cakewalk Home Studio but have gotten tired with blue screens and numerous compatibility problems that windows machines typically suffer from! I recently saw the light and purchased an iBook G4 1.2Ghz with 256mb RAM and 30GB HDD and was wondering if it would be powerful enough to run Logic 'properly' with real time effects, multiple 'real' instrument recordings etc? I have a MIDI setup at home which works fine with the laptop in garageband using an Edirol USB UM MIDI input device. Also I see it has no line in and was wondering what you guys would recommend as a decent quality, low latency USB sound input device? Any help would be really appreciated! Many thanks, Anders |
