Hello guys
To make the long story short - I have basicaly 4 controllers
1) M-audio project mix ( using as main mixer)
2) MPD 24 Pad controller ( for drum sampler)
3) M-audio 61keystation - (basically simple keyboard controller)
4) Novation 49Sl Compact - (also keyboard with some extra buttoms)
Anyways when all those controllers are activated in
logic/preferences/control surface they work as one controller.
For example - both keyboards controlling same thing - depending on which keyboard
I play.
What I’m trying to find out if I can assign one keyboard to VST on one track ,second keyboard to another VST on another track and possibly pad controller to third drum track - so for example 3. people can independently play 3. different tracks with their VST-s.
With live instruments it’s a piece of cake - but in this case since all 3. named controllers have USB so I’m not sure how to do it?
I did my research - went through all Logics Enviroment stuff, Even Logic’s 8 Controll surface guide but nothing has really helped me .

If anybody has got experience with this chalenge I would really appreciate your feedback.
Thanks for your time.

Hello guys
I’m trying a purchase a new Boot drive for Power PC Mac dual G5 2.7 GHz ( early 2005) ? All my audio and music samples I’m running from 4 bay ( sata ) exterior hot swap enclosure with Lycom card so my boot drive will be clearly for OS X and applications ( Pro Tools Logic ,NI and many others)
I have done big research and I was considering wide variety of hard drives - From WD Raptors 74 and 150 gb ,Seagates,Maxtors to Htachi’s.
So finally I‘ve sorted out choices for my boot drive
to - Hitachi T7K 500 GB
- WD Caviar SE16 500 GB or WD Caviar RE 2 500 GB
- Maxtor Diamond Max 10 or Maxline III ( 300 GB )
In Amug review they were not really happy with Hitachi T7k 320 GB inside mac pro on internal bus ( without host adapter)
http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/rev...ticles/seagate/
But that is Mac Pro - I have Dual processor so it might be different- )
Lot of people are preferring both kinds of WD Caviar. Some are cheering for maxtor drives ( those are preferred in bare feats reviews http://www.barefeats.com/boot02.html )

So basically my question is which HD out of those earlier stated would work best in my particular kind of MAC without PCI - X card or another words what kind of boot drive are you guys using with your dual G5.
I would really appreciate if anyone can give me a feedback as far as what drive would be the best choice.

Thank you very much for your time

I have Power MAC Dual G5 2,7 GHz
It’s important to note that since I’ve made some big mistakes as far as handling my apps I’m doing “ erase and install” on my boot drive ,purchasing new boot drive and starting from the scratch - Basically doing whole new setup with my music apps, sample libraries and back up.
Since I want to do everything right this time - I was gonna ask about following issue
I’ve been going through some research and in couple of places I’ve read that many people sometimes using two accounts
- one for music - DAW account and
- one main account - for all the other activities
I’ve also found out that there are two different opinions on what this set up can do for you.
First group claims that this set up allows to keep your DAW system clean and that there are also performance advantages.
Second group claims that this is clearly for organizing purposes and that won’t probably win you any performance = they also say it might be time consuming to customize your system this way.
If anybody have any experience with this two account system - please let me know.
I would really appreciate your feedeback

I’m planning to do whole new HD set up on my computer
I have Dual 2.7GHz PowerPC G5 ( early 2005) and I want to buy dual bay “hot-swap” enclosure SeriTek/2N2 with PCI - X card SeriTek/1VE2+2.

The reason for that was that I was gonna use WD raptor 150 GB internally which needs host card with my G5 and also I was gonna RAID O two drives externally for my sample libraries.( I’ve mentioning Firmtek and Firmtek products -( just in a case somebody have them) but it does not really matter - my main question ( which is stated later on in this post ) has more of a general meaning.
Anyways They told me that It would be better to avoid using second internal hard drive ( first one would be the raptor on internal part of 2x2 combo PCI - X card and second one would be seagate barracuda)
and recommended me to go with my audio - “external - SATA ” and reason for that suppose to be AC power (of G5 powermac ) which is not capable in some cases take huge amounts of heat and that “replacing or fixing problem connected with AC power is” apparently not cheap.
Until now I was using only one internal HD as a boot drive - So basically my question is whether they are right about not installing second internal HD into my mac or their advice should actually push me towards buying 4 bay external HD from them ?
I know that a lot o guys are using audio on second internal HD so better stated question would be - “how much audio or even samples are we talking about to over heat g5’s internal highways?”
or another words if I have chance to go with for bay external enclosure for may audio and sample libraries - would that ease “somehow” my My G5 where would be basically only the boot drive with OSX and applications?
Hopefully I did not make that too confusing.
Can anyone please give some input - what would you do in my shoes. I would really appreciate your feed back.
Thanks for your time.

Hey guys
I’m planning to buy dual bay “hot-swap” enclosure SeriTek/1EN2
http://www.firmtek.com/seritek/seritek-1en2 with PCI - X card
SeriTek/1VE2+2

and I want to try to take an advantage of raid 0 set up( two internal SATA HD - probably maxtor or hitachi around 200 GB) and with this issue I’m posting those questions - hopefully there is somebody with answers - otherwise I will have to research that stuff forever.

1) Let’s say that I have Kontakt 2 library on one hand and and couple of sample libraries on the other - would it be better to use
a) Kontakt 2 on one hard drive ( of my two bay enclosure) and other
libraries on the other HD. or
b) Strip my libraries libraries across two drives ?(maybe with us of partitions)

2)This question is more of a general kind about stripped RAID

I know that lot of people take advantage of stripped RAID set up but this particular article
http://faq.storagereview.com/tiki-index.ph...gleDriveVsRaid0

has made some doubts whether I should even bother with this set up .
Anybody has some experience with using RAID 0?

3) For those who supports this set up where would be smarter to use it ( if you have a one choice)
a) On two sample libraries drives ?
b) On two audio drives ?
c) Or on two boot drives ?

If you guys have any experience with that i would really appreciate your answers,Hopefully other people find it useful as well.
Thanks for your time
