k so I fully understand everything about PT LE and other DAW's but HD rigs really boggle my mind, mainly the whole DSP/Interface part. so here goes.

so I know to get started with a HD riig you need two things

1. the DSP Core and an Interface (96 I/O and 192 I/O)
and
2. a Ton of money.

but here are a few things I dont understand.

1. how does Digi guarantee support for up to like 192 and 96 channels of I/O (HD|3 Accel of course) and does it guarantee that in other programs that support TDM like Digital Performer, Nuendo and Logic? or is it just plug-in DSP in those programs?

2. on the interfaces there is the 96 I/O and the 192 I/O but on the 192 I/O I don't see any typical TRS inputs I just see tiny hole that says 1a 1b through 8a 8b
I can't see that well in the picture http://www.digidesign.com/products/hd/syst.../192enlarge.jpg does that mean there is a separate I/O box or somthing for that unit.

3. whats the deal with the "Sync I/O" box, no idea what that thing does.

4. on the "system diagram" they them using an external scsi drive, is that nessecary for the high track counts, or can you get by with just a fast firewire drive.

is there a difference between using HD gear with Pro Tools, than with Digital Performer, Logic and Nuendo or do you get the same performance and everything?

and finally.

are there any other companys that make DSP cards and I/O interfaces similar to an HD rig? (like RME or Metric Halo I don't know if they're similar)

thanks alot

So I saw this and this just fueled my Hatred for Digi even more.

Motu 896HD with 18ins 22 outs and 8 Mic pre's for $995.99
24-Bit/192 kHz

http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/896...96/body.html/en

Digi 002 8ins 4 outs and 4 mic pre's $1199.00
24-bit/96 kHz

http://www.digidesign.com/products/digi002...tems/002rhw.cfm

the Digi 002 comes complete with Pro Tools LE and the SHIT digi core audio driver if the 002 is used on anything other than Pro Tools.

so what's the deal doesn't make sense to me

I'm buying the 002 Rack and I see they offer the "factory bundle"

which is.

• Bomb Factory BF-3A by Bomb Factory
• moogerfooger Ring Modulator by Bomb Factory
• moogerfooger Analog Delay by Bomb Factory
• SansAmp PSA-1 by Bomb Factory
• Cosmonaut Voice by Bomb Factory

its like 400 bucks more for this upgrade, I'm familiar with these plugs, so is this worth the upgrade?

So yeah I'm a pretty heavy logic user and I'm starting to realize the beauty of the included Logic plug ins and Synths.

I've also been trying to learn to use kontakt really well.

I don't wanna have two samplers though because it seems redundant.

so here's my gripe

EXS24 appleized and rock solid with very little DSP usage.

Kontakt very powerfull sampler with alot of DSP usage and a bit of unstabiltiy compared to EXS24

also can I convert my kontakt samples to EXS or vis versa with CDXtract or similar?

hey folks, My school made me get digital performer for a class.

So I just installed in and went through the mediocre tutorials on the CD.

now the interface and well everything else is wicked confusing.

so does anyone know any good web resources on where I can learn this piece of software???

thanks alot
