im currently using :

mac g4 1.3 ghz osx 10.3.9
motu pci 324 w/ 1224 IO.
cubase 2.2sx.

i have set my buffer very high (1024 samples). and still getting stutering .
and cant play any vstI synths in real time due to very bad latency .

i cant set the buffer any lower because the stutering will increase .

should i switch to Motu pci 424 or firewire? or switch brands .. will the latency & stutering issues improve?

any cubase users out ther? what do you reccomend? what are you using?
i dont need much!! just the basic 8 out/in digital I/O and if midi is included that would be cool too.

please help.

my PCI cards are: TC electronic Powercore
adaptec scsi card 2920
radeon graphic card
MOTU pci 324

im not sure which one is compatible with g5 & which card needs updating.?

i also have 2 cinema displays. the main display is connected to the built in graphic card via ADC..
the second monitor is connected to the Radeon graphic card via DVI. the question is : will i be able to connect both displays to the G5 by using using the same connections or will I need to use some sort of adaptor?

I just downloaded the latest US-428 driver from Tascam.com. i can control SX 2 now fine.
however, im now faced with a new problem.
"Beach Ball of Death" (as some sx users called it) keeps interupting the work flow and hangs for a while then in some cases it crashes the program.
in the begining i was not sure what was causing the Ball to appear systematicaly every few min. it only stoped appearing after i turned off US-428. Now i dont even bother using the US-428 since I only used it to control sx2. not worth the delay.
BTW: im using OS 10.2.8 and the latest sx update.
so im not sure if there is a general problem with SX and USB audio devices.

Below is strictly for those who wish to use Griffin gport in (OsX) with Opcode Studio5.

in my set up the gport works fine under Os9 but when switching to Osx, midi communication lost.

After a week of troubleshooting, I was very close to replacing $$$ my good old Studio 5 untill i found this post. No it was not on the Griffin site. anyways a big thank you to the writer!!
here it is:

In OSX install both gport driver and gport midi driver for osx
2. Boot into os 9
3. Open oms setup in os 9.
4. Create a studio document. Configure the document for your studio setup. Save and make it current.
5. While the current studio document is open, choose Compatibility Setup from the Studio 5 menu. Put a check in the "Emulate Midi Time Piece" box.
6. Set the speed to 1 MHZ (NOT to fast).
7. From the pull down menu choose Midi Time Piece In.
Set up Midi Time Piece In exactly like your studio studio document.
8. From the pull down menu choose Midi Time Piece Out.
Set up Midi Time Piece Out exactly like your studio document.
9. Choose re-establish communication from the Studio 5 menu. (Don't know if this is necessary, but it can't hurt).
10. Now quit out of 0S 9, boot into 0S10
11. Configure the gport with 15 ports and 1mhz. Close gport
12. Open audio midi setup. You should see "standard interface" with 15 ports.
13. Configure your midi setup.

You're done. It works with Midi Monitor, Digital Performer 4.1 & Cubase Sx. [B] [FONT=Impact]
