Hi ! Anyone experienced who give me some advices?
I have just bought the Motu 828mkII and now I am trying make a setup specifically for my studio. This is a quite complicated situation :
I have four sound devices which I would like to use in stereo.
I have a LXP-1 Lexicon as a reverb.
I have two computers a G5 and a G4 (for OS9 applications) which works good together because of a USB KVM-switcher I can use my Motu microexpress for all mididevices on both computers. (but not at the same time, of course)
I would also like to hear the sound from both computers.
I have a Fostex Line-mixer with 16 channels in and out.
How shall I get all this to work with the 828 MkII ?
There are eight analog inputs on the 828 which I intend to use for the sound devices.
I was thinking of using the S/PDIF connection for my G5 in/out. (But I read something in the manual about clock-syncronization on this matter.)
The G4 will have to go through my Fostex Linemixer, I guess.
Still I have to make some compromises when it comes to my sound devices.
I have to set up a couple of them in mono to make room for the LXP-1.
Here is a scenario:
Digital piano ch 1-2 ,/ Proteus2 ch 3-4,/ U110 1 ch 5 / U110 2 ch 6 / LXP-1 ch 7
allright I have one ch left - which could be used as a stereo for a U110 for example.
Mac G5 S/PDIF* in/out [or to my Fostex Linemixer] Virtual instruments would be better going to the 828mk I guess.
Mac G4 to Fostex Linemixer
I have an stereoamplifier (homemodel) and two speakers to all this.
I am a newbie, and for me all this seems difficult. I use Digital Performer and applications like Sibelius, Overture.
Could anyone please suggest a setup that would suit me?
kind regards Ingvar
I am planning to invest in Motu's Machfive, a virtual sampler (16 channels) which can import most sample formats (except Unity) ?
It seems quite expensive to buy all sample CD:s on the instruments that I want to simulate.
Does anybody has any recommendations on which sample CDs to get . I am only interested in samples of acoustical instruments, not synthsounds.
Is there perhaps a better alternative then Machfive on the market.
I will use DP4 and OS X for the purpose.
1)
Everytime I start up Digital Performer 4.01 I have to manually switch between my two identical midiconfigurations.
This is because Core midi doesnt seem to regognize the Motu Midi express interface.
It's Icon is greyed out and to get it active I have to go to menu and turn it off and then turn it on.
I have the OS X drivers from Motu for the Micro Express.
You may say that I should try with only one Midi configuration in the Motu folder.
I have done that and there is no difference to the behaviour.
I don't understand why Core midi don't regognize midi express automatically.
2) Another thing that I have thought about: Is there any difference to keep the applications in the User folder called "Programs" compared to keep the applications in the boot folder called "applications" Besides if you are more than one user on a computer.?
