Hey all:

Considering purchasing a MOTU 828. I'd like to use it with my iBook. After recording, I want to be able to disconnect from the hardware and go elsewhere (Starbucks, etc.) and do editing. Can I open and use Audio Desk without the 828, or is it like ProTools systems, which require the attached hardware to open?

Also, any comments on minimum operating system requirements for use with OSX would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Carlos

Hey all:

I know that ProTools Free uses the Apple Sound Manager to deal with ins and outs. Is there any way it can utilize ASIO?

I just bought an Edirol UA-5 and it sounds great - except for the horrible latency. There IS a way, however, to adjust the latency to be acceptable, but only if one uses a program that is ASIO-compatible.

Is there a way to run PTFree via ASIO or would I need to look at another program such as Cubasis?

Thanks,

Carlos

Hey all:

Now that I have successfully procrastinated in buying a USB interface for my iBook I see that the Firewire 410 appears to have been released.

Who is using it? Any glitches? How is sound quality? Preamps okay? Am i right in assuming that I can connect my firewire external hard drive to the 410 and expect it to function properly going "through" the 410? Etc.

Thanks,

Carlos

Hey all:

New member here, with a question. I've got an iBook 500 Mhz that I am going to make the heart of my studio setup. In looking around at various interface options I'd like to go with a firewire unit so as to potentially record more than two tracks at once. I am also going to buy a firewire hard drive to supplement the puny little 9 gig drive in the computer.

In doing this I would take up both firewire ports. Anyone have any experience using both firewire ports simultaneously on an iBook, one as an interface and the other as a write-to drive?
Any problems encountered doing so?

Thanks

Carlos
