I'm currently using a G4 833mhz processor w/ around 600MB or RAM and DP4.
The Digi001 is my audio and midi interface and up until this point I have been using it to record audio only.

I now have a Yamaha S-90ES synth that I would love to use as a sound bank for midi sequencing of drum parts. Digital Performer is slowing down my performance because it does not seem that user friendly when sequencing drums. Is there something I am missing? Should it be sufficient enough and a valuable tool in sequencing drum parts?

I also have a new PC in my home which I can use to record or to sequence w/ and make 1 a sequence and the other a recorder. It has x2 amd 3800 processors and 2Gig of Ram. Ideally I would stick to my Mac for everything but due to the Digi001 not being compatible w/ newer applications etc...maybe it makes sense to just use the PC?

Any thoughts?

Hey guys and gals,
Up until this point I've been using Digital Performer 3 with a Mac G4 and a Digidesign Digi 001 running OS9.2. I've used it for audio only recording because it was stable and I dug the plug ins that came standard.

Yesterday I bought the Yamaha S90ES and am looking to do sequencing on the synth (with it synth as the master key and the playback for recording). The problem is that DP3 won't record or playback the midi. DP4.5 will record but will not play back.

I've gotten protools le to record and playback the midi and would consider using this but am not sure of the editing capabilities. The Pro Tools version I'm testing this out on is ancient (from around 91) I need something to sequence drums and to do extensive editing of each note to try to make the sequences more realistic. I would also love to be able to see the patches and select them from withing the software as well.

Does anybody have a suggestion on a solution with the Digi001? I am limited with it due to the fact that many of the newest OSX software doesn't support it.

If not, will DP 4.5 function normally with a MOTU 828 piece or something similar?

Thanks for your help in advance. It is greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I'm looking at the Motif ES8 and love the sounds - drums, violins and pianos are truly great. But I may not be able to justify spending the $2500-$3000. Can anybody recommend something that has weighted keys and that may come close in sound quality? I don't mind buying a used or previous version of a synth.

I just love the drums sounds on this - mostly looking for acoustic rock, jazz and just a good mix in general.

Hey guys and gals,
I'm currently using the Digi001 w/ Digital Performer 3 and ProTools (that shipped w/ the 001) on my Mac 633MHZ Computer in OS 9.2. I've only really done audio recording and haven't moved into midi sequencing too much.

I'm just wondering if I might be able to get some advice on a Synth to use for the purpose of recording. Of the ones I've played in stores I like the Yamaha Motif ES8 the most. The 8 is necessary because the weighted keys are a must for my lady who will pay half to use it for keys.
Has anybody used this synth with the 001? Is there a different suggestion on synths that are out?
Is the serquencing better IN DP or Protools or should I look elsewhere in general?

I guess I'm just looking for some opinions on any of the questions above. The Digi001 has served me well and the Mac that I'm using has never been too little for my uses. I would just love to add a nice synth to the mix for some great drum sounds. So which software and which synth?

Thanks ahead of time. I greatly appreciate any opinions. Please also feel free to e-mail me at: [EDIT LPM, please no email in the forum, spam bots can read it! use the link in the user's profile wink.gif ]
