I have posted a few threads about my problem with a USB MIDI interface and my Roland FP-8 digital piano.

First I had a XP MIDI Mate by Audiotrak (www.audiotrak.de). When I used it with the FP-8, the interface and computer (running Mac OS 10.2.6) did not respond to all the notes I played, and notes "hung" even though I'd stopped playing.

I've tried the set up with another computer running windows XP and another MIDI app, and had the same problem. I've also connect the FP-8 directly to a MIDI module (roland sound canvas) and it worked perfectly, so the problem is not the MIDI out stream on the FP-8.

I went to the music store where I bought it, and there they plugged it in using another (non Roland) keyboard and it worked flawelessly. Well I got to replace the XP MIDI mate with a RoMI/O by ESI (www.esi-pro.com), also a USB interface. (I think audiotrak and esi are the same company since they have the same tech support.) Anyways, I got home, plugged it in... the exact same problem as with the XP MIDI Mate.

I think that the problem is a hardware bug, that causes compatability issues with the Roland FP-8...but I'm no expert. I'm pretty sure it's not a Mac OS X problem.

I really need my piano for Cubase, and I don't have time for this crap!...pardon... So, my question now is: Has anyone used a USB MIDI interface with a Roland FP-8 (or a close relative to the FP-8), and if so what interface? Has anyone tried any of M-audios cheap usb MIDI interfaces, such as the midisport 1x1, and if so do they work well with Roland Digital Pianos?

Thanks for your reply!

I just bought a an "XP MIDI mate" USB MIDI interface, by Audiotrak, to use with my Roland FP-8 digital piano. When I plug it in the computer recognizes it right away and i can choose it in the MIDI-in and out menu in Cubase SX. The weird thing is that when I use for example LM4 or another VST instrument in Cubase and try to play on my piano, all the notes don't come through. I can see in the little MIDI-parameter, next to the midi chanel in cubase, that not all the notes I play are registered. When I play fast almost none of the notes I play are registered and only on ore tho notes are played by the VST instrument.

Does anyone know if this is a software problem, a problem caused by the midi interface or a problem with my digital piano?

thanks!

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has tried, or heard anything about using the Waveterminal 192M PCI card with OS X. The OS X drivers being pretty new and all, I am wondering if I'll be experiencing a lot of bugs and compatibly issues. The card has everything I need (with the optional extra Midi card), and is pretty cheap. I'm planning on using the card mainly with Cubase SX, maybe DP4 later on.

Thanks!

I have a Powermac MDD 1GHz, and plan on using it for music, with basic recording and midi stuff. Now I'm looking at the new M-audio Firewire 410, which looks like a great audio interface for me, with audio and midi in/out. Well, my question is: are there any real advantages in having a firewire interface on a stationary machine as opposed to a PCI card. I mean is the firewire card only better for portable computers?
thanks!
