I'm trying to find a cheap program that allows you to create drum rhythms, something similar to PCs Fruity Loops. Preferably, this program would allow you to create a rhythm and then let you substitute a .wav file into each beat or line on a musical staff.
I was cutting and pasting diff. sound sources into Pro Tools 5.1 but there's gotta be a better way to do this. In Pro Tools 5.1 I can't view the timeline in 16th note increments, which seems ridiculous if you can't cut and paste on the beat or a denomination of the beat. For instance, if I want to place a sound on the "+" or the "e" of 1, I have to guess because I can't see the beats broken down in less than quarter notes.
Any info. would be greatly appreciated. With my current method I should be finished a drum beat in 2005. please help!*.

I know of a neat program called Doggiebox. It's shareware, and you can register it for 30 bucks. you can import or create drum kits, and then use them to create a beat and export it as an AIFF. Untill you register, however, when you export the track every measure after the first one has a voice over it saying something like, "created using an unregistered version of Zygoat DoggieBox." A way around this is to create only one measure, then copy and paste it again and again in an audio editor, but it's better just to register. Download at http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audi.../doggiebox.html.
