I have the same question that I am sure has been asked by MANY...
SURELY *someone* MUST have written a Macintosh driver to recognize a MiniDisk player attached to the USB port, and to allow transfer / conversion back and forth between the Mac and the MD player/recorder! Is it really true that no one has done so? |

welcome to the lconsumer marketing that only recognizes PCs
I have a minidisc and of cousre the USB is useless for same reason. I just use optical input from my Digi001 to transfer stuff also, i realize you are just seeking answers on this topic and it could fall into a few different threads but please only post same topic once. Ugh, I was afraid of that!
Could you tell more about the solution you have come up with?? Is it a hardware product? Does that allow you to transfer files faster than real time? In one direction or in both directions? Do you have an idea whether that product you are using would work with a Sport MD? Any idea of whether Virtual PC running Net MD or JukeBox would work. I am just looking for ANYthing that will work... |

Hey Synthetic,
how do I use the optical on Digi001 to transfer from minidisc? I've looked through the protools manual and am getting very little help. Is it a matter of importing files into a pro-tools session or what? p.s. feel free to describe my ignorance thanks |

you have to have a optical cable that will go from the minidisc to the the Digi001's optical inputs and outputs on the back of the PCI card.
There is one optical port for input and one for output. You just need to connect it to the one depending out which way you are transferring. You will have to make a stereo track in PT and assign the input to the optical input for that stereo track and then record as you play the minidisc. If you are going the other way... just set the audio tracks outputs to the optical output and then play tracks in PT while you record on the minidisc. So being able to do this requires a minidisc player with an optical line in and out and the right optical cable. You can also use analog 1/8" headphone output on the minidisc and send that into a 1/4" analog splitter and then into analog inputs on the Digi001 to record music from the minidisc into PT that way. I have an old Sony MD player and it has optical input (not sure if it had ouput though) and I had in past used it with a digital mixer that had optical ouputs to record a live gig and then when I got home... I just fed into PT from the headphone output to the Digi001 via analog. I am not sure if my MD player has optical out or just optical in but I was in hurry and just went analog back into PT. Be warned though... MD is a compressed audio format. So its not quite CD quality sound which may or may not make a difference depending on what your needs are. -------------------- ----------------------------------------

got 1/8" mic input? get a male to male 1/8" adaptor and run headphone out of minidisc into mic input on your mac... no mic input? your are gonna need audio interface unless someone creates driver and app for it.
