i'm looking to purchase an audio/midi interface.
can anyone recommend a nice one within the $300.00
price range? (must be OSX compatible).

it did not be stingy, I worked with M- audio FireWire 410 to iBook/700/640mb qualitative sound minimum delay! Not bad microphonic preamplifiers. http://www.randomsound.ru/cgi-bin/catalog/....cgi?itemid=380
