Hi
Does anyone know if there's an equivalent to the Steinberg V-Stack for the Mac platform. I want to use my G3 laptop (running 9.2) as a synth and fx player, but find it very hard to get a working setup in Logic 4.7. Seems I can only play back one VSTi at the time, or at best several with an extreme delay (when sync'ing Logic to Pro Tools). (I'm running ProTools LE on a G4). Any good tips, or do I have to get a PC and V-Stack..? Cheers |

I have setup Cubase VST 5.1 on Mac as a stand alone, 8 part multi-timbral VSTi host. You have to activate "Multi-record" mode and select "Channel Split". A new track colum will appear in the arrange window, this column is where you select up to 8 seperate VSTi's for multi-record. Once this is setup, each of the 8 VSTi's will receive it's midi data on the specfic midi channel assigned to it in the multi-record column. Through the use of multi-record, all 8 VSTi's can play at the same time. Just make sure that you have a midi connection between the two computers. It's not the most elegant solution, but it works. I think there are a few promising dedicated Mac VST hosts on the horizon.
Latency may be an issue unless you have a good audio interface with well written drivers, and enough CPU power to set a low buffer size. The Cubase VST manual has more information about the multi-record mode. Hope this helps. |
