Hello guys

I am a total layman,
and need software to do the following things...
• thé sequencer (I only know Live from Ableton and I love it)
• thé soundeditor
• lots of sounds (best quality possible)
I also want to record human voices and sample those, what do I need?
Everything has to work on Mac OSX 10.2.8

Hello Pime,

Welcome to MacMusic.

There are plenty of posts on this subject already - have a browse through previous discussions in the various sections and you'll learn a lot about what gear is out there and what people think of it all. It's the best way to whittle down the choices until you find what's right for you. Then you can come right back at us with more specific questions.

Just quickly, though, you've got Live, Logic, Cubase SX, Reason, Melodyne, Pro Tools, Digital Performer and Metro as sequencers, plus Apple's new Soundtrack. The only caveat with Reason is that you can't record live audio, so maybe that's not for you.

You can edit sounds in all these, but also look at Bias Peak, Sound Studio, TC Spark and lots of others I'm probably forgetting (coo, it's like an Oscar winner's acceptance speech, innit?)

Lots of sounds? No problem. Millions of sample CDs out there. Try www.timespace.com and www.samples4.com for starters. There are free sites, too - search these forums for mentions. I know people have asked where to find free samples before.

If you want to sample and manipulate voices, you can do that to a certain extent with any sequencer. You might also like to check out Phatmatik Pro, which is pretty cool. Or if you go with Digital Performer, Logic or Cubase, you can buy plug-in samplers that work directly within the sequencer. I think the products are Mach 5 for DP4, EXS24 for Logic and I forget what the Steinberg one is called for Cubase.

Everything I mention here works in OS X 10.2.

Hope that helps. Spend a few days on the internet and come back to us if you have any more questions. cool.gif
