Ok, i really need some advice here. I just got a new powerbook and i would like to sell my old desktop. however, I had a digi001 system that i had hooked up to that and it came with that special pci card to plug the rack intot he computer.
now i would like to find some sort of adapter to be able to plug that same rack into the new computer but i have no idea what to get...in fact, i don't even know what that particular type of jack is called so that i can even look for it online.
if anyone could tell me if there is anyway for me to do this i would be forever in your debt.

Howdy! What you will need is a PCI box made by a company called "Magma". I think that is the name of the company; if not, it is the name of the box. They're pretty expensive though. It might be cheaper to buy one of the firewire input devices out there like the MOTU 828, etc... But, to answer your question, you can still use the Digi 001 with your laptop; You'll just need to get a Magma PCI box to do it. Hope this helps.

You might also check out the deal that Digidesign is currently running where you turn in your 001 hardwre and get a DIGI 002 for $795. The Magma boxes are nice, I have used a four slot with a G3 powerbook, but the firewire opportunity with new hardware and an upgrade path might be worth a look.

I love you. Well...in a "thanks for pointing out the obvious that may have just saved me hundreds of dollars" kind of way. That never even occured to me and I was seriously looking at the upgrade. Thanks!

NEVER trust Digidesign on their communication, save when they give a compatibility seal on some hardware. For the rest (upgrades, path of compatibilities announced, schedules) don't trust them, we haev some debates running in the French forums for month because of users in love with PT but desparate by Digi commercial attitude and windings. Digi001 drop of compatibility in one exemple. Note: This is not the DUC here
