I had a member of my forum share this guitar trick, and I found it rather interesting and thought maybe others would enjoy it.
"I thought you all would enjoy a old/new tuning middle four tuning/double D tuning. You get an old strap capo take it apart and cut the capo rubber so it covers just the middle 4 strings. You place the cut capo rubber on the rod backwards and pull the straps around the neck and fasten to the capo rod. this keeps the 2 e strings open. You can look for a old Buffy St. Marie song called "Codine" good luck".

As far as a good, inexpensive guitar goes try checking on the Fender/Squire Line of guitars- I actually bought a new Fender StarCaster (strat with a humbucker in the bridge pickup) for 79 bucks the other day and it sounds better than the Japanese Strat I bought 10 years ago for 550. Dean, Laguna, and Ibanez also make some very good starter guitars for around 150....You really should just strut on down to the nearest music store and try one or two out yourself to see what you like.
