Hey folks,

First of all i must say this forum rules! Now for the questions?

1. Should i get a PowerMac G4 1.25 or Dual 1.25?
( I only ask because i'll be using my Korg Triton to record via midi, and some audio work. Nothing too crazy. )

2.For Midi/Audio work should i get Logic Gold or Logic Platinum?
(Is it really worth paying alot more for Platinum if i probably won't even use all the features on Platinum? Or will i need it?)

I would like to know if i can save money by getting a regular G4 1.25 with Logic Gold instead of emptying my pockets on a dual 1.25 and platinum.

Thanks guys,

first... I always suggest getting fastest mac you can afford (mainly so that it will last longer before you feel need to upgrade). But g4 1.25 will probably do you fine as well.

second... the big advantage of Logic Platinum is can record and work in 24bit resolution and the Gold only does 16bit (unless they recently changed that). Also, Platinum does surround sound which is handy if plan to do any soundtrack work say for DVD etc. So it really depends on what your needs are. If you plan to mostly work with samples in 16bit and maybe add some midi and audio from your synth... then Gold will do fine but if you want better sound quality and a few additional features then go for Platinum.

All three versions of Logic (Plat, Gold, Audio) now support 24-bit audio files. What Platinum has that Gold doesn't is support for 24-bit TDM systems and, as Synthetic mentioned, Surround capabilities (including TDM), among other things like a few plug-ins. Have a look through the comparison charts here to see what else you might miss out on and decide from there. smile.gif

Logic 6 Platinum also features a new function called "FREEZE"
Free's up cpu processing power by rendering tracks selected to an audio track.

Hey guys,

I decided to buy the Dual G4 1.25, and i must say that i'm in love with this damn machine. I got 2 gigs of ram, and a 160 gig harddrive. I went to my local samash and purchased Logic Gold 6, and that is more than sufficient for me. I'm getting my hands dirty with Logic. Coming from a Sonar user, Logic freakin rules!!!!!

thanks guys for the info!!

Have a nice day smile.gif

congrats on your new system and software... makes me a bit envious as I putter along on my G3 350mhz 520mb Ram and 20gig internal and still on Logic 4.8.1 sad.gif

one day I will be on the up-and-up with new gear... until it then becomes outdated the next day wink.gif
