The MM news

WWDC 2003 was worth the wait, lots of news, some were expected, others were rumors for months. Fortunately rumors can be right too tongue.gif

Now we have something to lurk after in the coming months.

This said I mark that there will be no internal Zip, only one removable media drive, I believe the HD(s) is at the bottom and an impressive cooling system (4 fans?)

huhu; thats NINE fans... *NINE*

Steve said it's half as loud as the current G4s; however it's all very silent if you have 9 perfect fans, if some of them aren't up to par and have a slight equilibrium problem, then it will sound WAY worse than a current G4 IMO

I made a mistake (couldn't see the keynote before late monday, after this post) the drives are on the top row.

I'm wondring how it'll be to change a drive… it seems rather crowded down there.

One good thing is the power unit is no more prominent and "wasting" place as it IS at the bottom.

Hey bus we all live in a world of perfect fans wink.gif (pun intended)

There's some polemics on the specs but the verisign survey is done according to some rules asked for by some when comparing systems that are different in nature (disabling parts of the system/processor that are platform specific to test the common core and focus on it).

we'll need the real-test-made-in-the-life-of-G5-pioneers to know what they are worth.

At least they seem to scream comparing to G4s.

Now I have to find the money to have one (apple gimme gimme gimme wink.gif

There is absolutely no doubt that the G5 runs faster than a G4, and this we applaud. :-) Nevertheless, we are still waiting for a real test that demonstrates how PCs stack up against Macs on a level playing field, using the same configuration, settings, software, and plug-ins. As it stands, Apple is just preaching to the choir, and we are not convinced!

Any comments?

yeah... they need lots of fans to keep those chips cool I guess. I remember reading article about a year or two ago that IBM based processors ran more than twice as hot as comparable speed RISC processors on the Macs and consumed more energy as well.

I think it will be interesting to see how all this migration will work out for Apple systems. My poor G3 yosemite is almost at the point that it can't handle some of the new music apps and OSX without an upgrade so hopefully new processors will make G4 upgrades much cheaper as I love my G3 setup too much to part with and can't spend lots more on new system yet.
