I'd like to know if I should delete a driver by uninstalling as opposed to finding the kext file and chucking it in the trash - do I do this by running the installer again and choose an uninstall option? I'm not sure there is one...

If there is an "uninstaller" run it.
( else trash the kext-file ) Reboot & check for remains. Properly written "uninstallers" should do this. Not every "uninstaller " is proper. Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================

i confirm, as dixiechicken perfectly said, use the uninstaller: it will remove all installed file that could be harder than under OS9 to find because OSX file system is really more complex, and a lot of files could be spread in various place that you wont find easely..
And they are permissions problem to remove some files, not to speak about many hidden files (thoses with a name starting with a dot, visible only with some finder replacement shareware like PathFinder or with a "ls -a" command in the terminal) -------------------- Soif, MacMusic Webmaster

I have a similiar problem, I'm using a Motu 828 in DP4 and it requires version 1.02 drivers to be installed, so I uninstalled the previous drivers (version 1.01) and installed the new ones still everytime I open the Motu 828 control panel it says that it's using version 1.01 of the drivers.
Do any of you guys know how to remove the drivers manually?? |

Try klick the mouse once, somwhere on the desktop.
Hit Cmd & F key combination Enter Motu in the textfield in the search-dialog. You should get some 24 hits in OS X. Some entries are likely things DP4 installed. Throw away everything if You like. (You might as well un-install DP4 first) If you have activated your root account! Login as root. Do the same serch and throw everything away. Login as normal user, re-install fresh drivers Be prepared to re-install DP4, depending on preceeding steps. Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================

Thanks for all help,
I don't whether it's coz I'm new to it but OSX seems less "transparent" than earlier OS's. It doesn't crash so I don't mind...but will the time I save just be used up elsewhere as a result? computers ho hum J -------------------- Macbook Pro 2 ghz/15"/10.3.4/1 g RAM/x2 monitors/Logic Pro 7.2/Ableton Live 5.0/Reason 3/Fireface 800/PSP Vintage Warmer/Roland JD800/Roland SH101/Arturia Moog Modular/Epiphone Firebird 7/Guitar Rig/Dynaudio BM5a monitors.

The first thing to look at is if the installer as saved a 'log' file of what have been installed.... This file (viewable with TextEdit) content the locations (paths) of each installed files. But not all installers write a log file You could find logs in your home, and in various places like: /Library/Logs/ /Library/Receipts/ /Users/yourname/Library/Logs/ /var/log/ Or in the folder of your installed app, if any... To jimmynitcher!
If you dont mind taking some of that time, bone up on some basic Linux stuff. ( to know how to get around some - in the terminalwindow & cmd-prompt is extremely useful at times ) Mac OS X has the Linuxdistro - Free BSD - as foundation. At Amazon.com there's several books on Mac OS X as well. Cheers & good luck: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================

I forgot to ask, How did you uninstall the driver the first time?
At the MOtu Website, read the PDF file for the driver, it explains everything..(well, almost) If you got to the Firewire console App and view the 828 tab, the bottom should say: ROM: 1.02 , Hardware V4 Which is the most recent one. However the About Motu firewire console...{ In the Console drop down list thing at the top left corner ( I forgot he proper terminology)} It stills says version 1.01 , but it doesn't mater. Besides When ou see the Firewire console App details, it says when it was last modified, if that date is the date you installed it then you are all set... if I am wrong . it makes no difference to me aa least, mine has always worked flawlesly -------------------- Saurabh Sethi
