I have an original Dual USB iBook, 500 mhz. I was planning on purchasing the Emagic Production Pack once it ships with version 6 of Logic gold, and running it on my iBook. I was planning on buying an external firewire HD for audio use.
That interface can only do 6 ins at a time, and I'm not planning on doing a lot of heavy multitracking, just simple recording of drums and other instrument for making demos of songs. I won't really need any realtime effects. Is this going to work? I don't really have the money for a new mac, at least anytime soon, and the Production Pack seems like a good deal with the interface, Logic Gold, three virtual instruments, and a sample library. I figured I could always upgrade my computer later. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance. |

For getting started, the Production Pack is definitely a pretty good bundle. FireWire audio interfaces are better in the long run and for a professional production with dozens of tracks, but for home recording, up to say 24 tracks, USB is fine. Aside from anything else, your Mac probably can't handle more audio tracks than that anyway, so the Production Pack would seem to be ideal for you. As long as you like Logic - some do, some don't.

You might want to keep your one firewire for an external HD. Ah, you said original ibook. Perhaps you don't have FW.
I do demo quality recordings on my G3 ibook600, and I don't use my external FW HD during recording anyway. -------------------- Without shit, we wouldn't be here ;)
