Hell0o all,
Reason 2.0 should be arriving at my doorstep any day now and since it's os X compatible I'm wondering if I need to use OMS. I'm using the audiosport quattro with it and that also has os X drivers. Yeah! So is OMS still necessary? Also, what does it mean when they say OS 10.2 will now have working audio units? How is that different then OS X now. And I can't believe there is no special upgrade price for 10.2. That's pretty lame. It seems like OS X just came out!

[answering machine mode] OMS is a dead thing, its developement stopped years ago when Gibson (hate hate) bought a dying Opcode and the developer went to… Apple. In fact He working for 3 years on the MidiCore and AudioCore of X. Both of which will be -supposed to be- fully working in 10.2 coming next month. So forget OMS, it's dead, buried, not to be seen on X. Ever.[/answering]

For audiounits check the pinned thread about… you'll know as much as us smile.gif

Yes Apple f…d up with the "no upgrade path cept for just buyers, mate!" politic. Just tell them… there's a feedback page on the OS X site. I did (no answer though wink.gif

Now to come back on the Reason question, check the manual as it'll come. Sure there will be bold explanations on the new OS X stuff. smile.gif cool.gif

Coincidentally, Reason 2.0 just turned up on my doorstep today and I can tell you that lepetit is quite right - Reason does not need OMS in OS X. Just plug your Midi interface/keyboard straight in and get going. Of course, your audio interface (if you have one, like me) probably won't have OS X drivers yet, so nothing's perfect. biggrin.gif

Just to make things straight (I think it's not clear in some heads here) OMS is old stuff, 68k code (waaaaaaay old), expecting some hardware to be presenr (mainly serial ports…) I don't want to know HOW you could install OMS on an OS where apps have a completely different form, and then HOW X could use this dinosaur. Install in classic… HOW then OMS is gonna use the hardware (X work only), some have tried, all have failed. blink.gif

OMS, just kill it cool.gif rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Keep in mind, if you check out the description of the OSX drivers on M-Audio's site, they do not yet support MIDI...

All I know is that I'm using Reason 2.0 in OS X (10.1.5, with the improved Midi handling) and my Midi interface is an M-Audio Oxygen 8. Works fine. Wrote some lovely songs in Reason just yesterday. The M-Audio OS X driver goes "missing" occasionally, requiring a reboot (usually every time after the iBook wakes from sleep) but that's the only issue so far.
