i just purchased a copy of reason, and i was wondering if any of you current logic x users could enlighten me on whether i should also invest in a copy of logic now or wait for the next update? i realize reason has a pretty unimpressive sequencer, but i'm not sure i need a full blown sequencing program just yet. anybody know how long till the next logic update?

If you're going to wait, I recommend you wait until Digital Performer and Metro hit the shelves for OS X (and maybe even the coming version of Live! with promisied full sequencer capabilities), so you actually have some choices to compare to, and then do a *hard* comparison of features, compatibility, ReWire support, dollars, and dongles.
If you do, frankly I don't think you'll end up dangling yer dongle. But you might. Depends on how Logic-al you are.

I purchased the Big Box a few months ago, from version 5.3 I haven't had any problems with it.
Downloaded the OSX version it seems to be very solid.(haven't stressed it yet) After you get past your first enviornment it's much like any other sequencer. It does seem to have deeper features than my other audio/midi apps. (Cubase, DP3) But I haven't had to crack the manual for basic tracking. Mixing will be another slight learning curve. the built-in softsynths are higher quality than the Cubase freebies. You also get a licence for the ES-1 synth, and the EXP24, VP73 VSTi. In OSX the ES-1 is operational, still waiting for AU versions of the VSTi. Rewire has not been implemented for OSX yet, have to boot to OS9 for that. I'm also waiting for DP to be ported. I may never upgrade Cubase, tired of being a second class citizen.

I bought a Pc version of logic PLATNIUM for $300 USD.... then got a free crossgrade key to use itwith my mac...yeah baby......
if you can, I would do the same..... its damn near impssoible to find a LAP for PC, they have been discontinued....but if you do you will get a great deal on it...... |
