Hello, hello...

Just bought myself a lovely new G4 'QuickSilver' 867 on Friday :-)

..but alas cannot run ProTools on it, or anything for that matter!!

I have the Digi001 Sound Card and ProTools LE 5.1, but every time I install ProTools & the Digi001 drivers the system hangs on start-up when the DigiSystem INIT extension loads.

I've tried...
putting a 'z' in front of the relevent extensions so they load last
downloading and updating the DigiSystem INIT extension & DAE
changing the PCI slot.

All to no avail!!!

I have heard something about the ram in the new G4's (DDR?) and complications with the Digi001.

Has anyone here had the same problem? and if so how did fix it?

Distressed,
Matt C

what version of PT LE are you installing and what system version are you using? I do know that one of the previous versions of PT LE had some driver troubles with newer systems... the fix was to upgrade to newer version of drivers or PT LE software.

you might also look at what other extensions are on that don't need to be which may be causing a conflict. I have a set in extension manager control panel called "Music Set" that is just for doing music work. I created this set using base OS9 extensions and then adding extensions for my other music apps.

I am running MacOS 9.2.2 and the version of PT LE is 5.1, but I have updated the drivers (DigiSystem INIT & DAE) to 5.1.1 (which I belive are the latest for Digi001 users).

As far as extensions are concerned I have done exactly the same thing created a set called 'Audio Set' which are the OS 9.2 Base extensions plus the Digidesign drivers.

I have looked through the Digidesign site and found the following statement for Quicksilver G4 & Digi001 Users:

----
When booting up the Apple G4 "Mirrored Drive Doors" (Dual 867 MHz G4, Dual 1 GHz G4, Dual 1.25 GHz G4), the computer hangs when loading the DigiSystem INIT.

9/10/02 - We have identified a problem with the new Apple Dual 867 and Dual 1 GHz CPUs when using Digi 001. Though we are working hard to get to the source of the problem, we must advise Digi 001 users to not purchase either of these computers until a fix can be found.

Now my new mac is not a DUAL 867, but it does have DDR RAM, which I am informed is the source of the problem. Hmm.... Is there anything I can do, at the moment I have a very pretty looking word processor!!!

man... that stinks, well seeing that many PT users are on G4s... I am sure Digidesign will get it figured out soon wink.gif

From the mavens of DidweDesign:

And to think: DidiweDesign provides its "Which computers you can't buy" consultation service absolutely free of charge to its customers.

I saw this too in the news articles, this does suck big time. Should we really be expected to modify our machines to make up for the complete lack of foresight and built in flexibility dodgydesigned by digi developers and coders. I can think of few other computer peripherals that suffer this problem so early in their working life. Can it really be that digidesigns team are that incompetant or do they deliberately make their hardware 'awkward'. Either way it doesn't bode well for their credibility.

The new macs biproc and DDR don't like the Digi01 at all. Digi confirmed this on their site.
If you need it, Applecare has to change the motherboard as there's a problem with the PCI ports. It affects the digi card and other ones (cinewave, lynx two C)

i don't like the dodgy 001 either, i wonder if dodgydesign would confirm THIS on their site. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
this is just the tip of the iceberg, someone has to set up a website dedicated to the little shop of horrors that is the "didwedesign experience".
being sued by them wouldn't cost any more than buying one of their pathetic hd (highly dodgy) systems anyhow... wink.gif

Yeah, what a load of b****cks. Money for old rope, I say.

blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

Do yourself a favour and "lose" your Digi 001! If you're rich, then just chuck it on the nearest available skip.

laugh.gif

If not rich, then sell it quickly to somebody who is...? or return it promptly to the sad salesman who recommended "dodgy" to you...?

I thought the problem was with one of the bollocks in the Mac.

You're not helping cartemj. I would have thought that you could help him, Teiwaz, from your experience with the 001. You do have have first hand experience on it, don't you?

There are many people on here that use the 001 and could help, but I doubt if they feel welcome.

Perhaps we should warn all digi users (that includes me) to avoid the MM forums in English. This would not be a problem for all those who are quite happy with their digi setup, but wouldn't it be nice if those who do have problems could come and seek constructive help as is the case on the French side.
