Hello everyone!
I have Digital Performer 6. It was not cracked, not pirated, nothing of that kind. Perfectly legal. I bought it, in December. Until now, I just opened it one time, understood nothing, and closed it. Now, here is the problem: Today, I tried to use for the first time what the "User's guide" calls "Tutorial 1". So, I opened it. Here is what appeared on the screen, together with the Tutorial itself. It was 2 pop-ups. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to put the screen-captures I did as attached-files to a post, here, so I reproduce the pop-ups word for word: The first one says: [i]"Some MIDI assignments could not be found in the current MIDI Configuration. Make sure that these substitutions arre correct: MIDI Sources: Old assignmant: IAC Driver Bus 1 New assignment: Gestionnaire IAC MIDI Destinations Old assignment: IAC Driver Bus 1 New assignment: Gestionnaire IAC Since I didn't know what to answer to that, I clicked OK (down right on the pop-up), and then, appeared this one: EFFECT ERROR The following effects could not be found Roger Nichols Digital: Inspec Master-1 Insert A And...I understand exactly nothing to what I'm supposed to do!! I guess that it is necessary to Digital Performer to be told what devices to use, or something like that, but really, if someone could help me, I could "die-as-not-totally-stupid", as we use to say in French.. Thank you reading! friendly Pierre |

Well, I am not sure if there is that much to worry about.....though, I don't own DP so, I may have no idea of what I am talking about....I just know that the issues you are having are pretty common in just about all brands of music software in one form or another.. Have you changed your sound card or maybe even updated your OS? I believe that would be the only thing to be concerned about there is making sure that DP knows where to go fo get the midi drivers it needs to operate. The Roger Nichols thing is a plug in that has either been moved, accidentally deleted or possibly even corrupted somewhere along the way. You may want to go back to your installation disc and see if it can be found there, and you could merely drag the plug in to the correct folder (Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plug ins/Component, if its an AU plug or, in Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plug ins/VST if it is a VST plug. Possibly, the Roger Nichols thing might be a plug that was bundled with your sound card so, you may want to check it as well. I guess the real question here is, does DP make any sounds when you try to play an instrument thru it? If not, then check DPs preferences (the dropdown menu that has the DP name and is next to the applie at the top left of your screen) and make sure that your desired input/output sources are selected. This applies to both midi and audio. If you can't see your desired source of sound (like your sound card) then you may need to check your audio/midi utility. This is found in MacHD/Applications/Utilities and it is pretty straightforward from there.
If none of this works.... You want to uninstall DP (check your install disc.....sometimes there is a software uninstaller to use) DP by dragging it from your Applications folder to the trash. From there, use your install disc to reinstall DP, and before you do anything else, go to DP's website and download the MOST RECENT drivers that are compatible with your current Mac and OS. If you have a Power PC Mac, it may or may not be advisable to install a Universal Binary update (though, you need to do so anyway sometimes....Contact DP's support desk before doing so). It's really important though, to keep all of your software up to date as, in many instances, the version of the software on install disc is often full of bugs. The same thing applies to your sound card. Keep your drivers as up to date as possible with your current version of OS and Mac model. I hope this helps. Digital Performer also has its own user forum that is sponsored by the manufacturer and may be able to help you better than I can. www.myspace.com/mortal_engines This post has been edited by mortalengines: Mon 9 Feb 2009, 14:37 |

Before start doing anything, you need to set up 'Audio MIDI Setup'.
It's in the Utilities folder in Applications folder. You must read 'Getting Started' book that comes with the software. After that you'll be fine. |
