Hi,guys,

I've read many times on this forum that one should NEVER change a working system.I work on a Power PC Dual G5 at 2.3 Ghz and 8 gigs of RAM,and Logic Pro 7.2.3,with a whole bunch of additional software like Melodyne,Spectrasonics stuff,Nexus,Albino, etc.I bought the Logic Studio 8 right after the first release of it,but it still stands on a bookshelf,as my recent system works flawlessly.I work a lot for TV,commercials, etc. My intention is to sell the whole system (a colleague of mine is ready to buy it), and go for a Mac Pro 8-core and finally start using the Logic 8.I have the bad feeling that If I wait any longer I won't be able to get any decent money for my existing system.Do you guys think that's the right way to go?Any advice would be greatly appreciated! unsure.gif

I've this year made the switch you're thinking about, though i'm centered around DP5. i believe that you're right in assuming the dual G5 wil plummet in resale value in the next year. (despite its value to you, as a working system) for me, the machine itself failed completely, and i was forced to move to the 8 core. for a professional, downtime is a loss, and i regret not having been proactive in the switch. it could have hurt more, since i was able to use my laptop for work for a couple of weeks as the turn over completed.

I'm completely happy with the power the 8 core gives me. virtual instruments and plug ins, not to mention basic tasks, flow much quicker, and i'm never feeling power hungry, as i often did with the dual g5. it's been a solid machine for me. pricey, but we're who they build this beasts for.
