i've read the article of dithering (some threads ago).
now i wanted to set my studio (all 16bit) up to 24bit.

i'm using 3 yamaha 02Rs with cascade kit.
the mac got a hammerfall Digi 9652 connected via adat interface to the 02R.
how do i change everything now to 24bit?
in my hammerfall control setup i see "20/24bit" option. i clicked it.
in my 02Rs i only find something for the stereo and for the bus with a dithering option. do i have to put that on 24bit?

hmmm didn't we cover this subject regarding your setup in another thread? just seems like a familiar setup and question.

to get 24 bit sound... you need to have everything at least 24 bit in the chain... I would check the specs on the O2Rs and see if they output 24 bit or not. I am thinking that if they have ADAT optical outputs then they are in 24 bit but I could be wrong.

additional side note: the recent post of the Seva interview has a nice little morsel of info on 24 bit. When using 24 bit recording... its less important to max out your levels thanks to the extra headroom and dynamics than if recording 16 bit cool.gif

Wow, 3x O2R's... *drool*

I am not familiar with Digi 9652, but just as Synthetic says, you need to have everything (O2R, Digi 9652, any software used in your mix) set above 24bit. For example, if I specify my Cubase's new project to 16bit quality, even if my audio inputs are 24bit, Cubase turns my sound into 16bit quality as it records... something like that.

As far as O2R is concerned, here's what Yamaha says:

02R96
Digital Mixing Console
24-bit, 96kHz Performance
