I pulled this quote of the emagic web sight today:

"In addition, shortly after the introduction of Pro Tools 6.0, Digidesign will release OS X Core Audio drivers that will enable Emagic support of Digidesign I/O hardware in native (host-based) Emagic applications."

Does this mean that it may be possible to use the DigiDesigns 002 with Logic 5.4 in the near future? Or am I just a bit overly optomistic. 002 looks like a sweet piece of hardware.

I'm just doing the research right now on getting my son's band's music into my tower to edit and burn.

I want OS X only software and hardware. Pro Tools seemed so proprietary until I too read that announcement on the Emagic site. I'm not to interested at this time in the midi stuff, but that doesn't mean I won't be in the future. I do like the techno music of the 80s.

So far I've looked into the following:

Protools LE and the usb MBox
Emagic and the EMI 6/2. The entry level MicroLogicAV doesn't appear to be going to OS X. Who knows maybe Apple is going to make it into iAudio.
M-Audio's Quattro and Duo USB look cool AND expandable.
Any entry level Digital Performer stuff coming to OS X?
The new Cubase SX looks nice.

I just need a OS X entry level piece of software that I can use with nonproprietary hardware.

Considering Apple did buy Emagic, I will definitely wait until MWSF this January before making any moves.
