i have a job offer to work in a studio. in order to get this job, i have to be able to align (calibrate) a tape machine. it has been a really long time since ive worked with an analogue tape machine, since everything has gone digital and everyone seems to be using hard disks. is there anyone who could point me in the right direction as far as a source to look at to learn this?

Here's a few links

http://www.larryseyer.com/align.htm

http://www.digitalprosound.com/Htm/TechStu...AnalogPt2-1.htm

http://www.vex.net/~pcook/RecAudioPro/analog.html

and

Hope you'll have engouh to read.

Next you'll need a real analog machine, the tecknician's repair manual(with all scematics, alignement procedures for this machine), a VTVM, a scope and a fresh test tape and all products needed for cleaning/deghaussing the tape path.

Maybe some spare parts(pinch roller)
