Hi everyone,

a quick scout through the forum, and I can't find an answer to this; I've posted a similar topic on recording.org

I'm using a MacBook Pro 2,2 Ghz, 4GB RAM with the standard 5400rpm 120 GB hard drive.

I want to record onto an external firewire hard drive, using Logic Pro.

As I'm using the MOTU 8pre interface, the Firewire 400 port is taken, leaving only the 800 for the harddrive.

I realise that they're both running on the same bus; is this going to cause problems?
Will both peripherals be sharing just '400'?

Any experiences with this?

Thanks in advance!

I don't use Logic but as far as I know, it shouldn't be a problem. I use more or less the same setup with Ableton on an old G4 Powerbook. Use a 7200RPM FW hard drive with an Oxford 911 chipset and get yourself an adapter (you can buy one on ebay....aFW 800 to 400 adapter cord for about 9 bucks) and you should be well on your way. If you find out later that it actually is a problem, you can buy a cardbus/FW adapter for 20 bucks on ebay as well.
