I have been told that MIDI is recognized ONLY thru USB on Apple computers??
Will I be able to connect my Korg X5D keyboard controller and Micro Piano box thru Firewire?

Thanks,

Some firewire audio interfaces also contain midi interfaces, take a look at MOTU, and M-Audio.

First, we have for quite sometime MIDI thru Ethernet too, now, I think the question is treacherous…

Is it a question of MIDI thru Firewire?

I've checked the X5D and the Micro piano box. For the Korg, it is MIDIfied so it'll be connected to any MIDI interface and it will do, but there seems to be a connection to host for Windows PC only, but its nature is a mystery… And it's Windows only. sad.gif

The Micro Piano, is it the Kurzweil KMP1 MicroPiano Module ? If so, it's only MIDI.

I don't know what you wanted in fact about the X5D, but you'll be able to connect both synths using a MIDI interface, be it USB, or Firewire.

Firewire interfaces are all audio interface with MIDI ports.

USB interface are either the same or MIDI only. Now if USB is an issue for you, you should tell us and why? USB is wayyy faster than serial on which MIDI was developed at the time, and serious interfaces have connections way better than they had at first…. (there was a "tight" problem then, due to a inherent "quality" of USB not to work rigorously with clocked streamed signals)

Hello
Originally, I used a Studio 4 serial...
I wanted to use firewire.. and was confused by someone, who told me that Apple only received MIDI by USB.

I am pleased to find this information was incorrect..

MY ProSonus Firebox will be here tomorrow... Yeah!!

Will let you know how it works..

Thanks

Ang

I thank everyone who has commented on my question..
Contacting Apple Developer forum... I received a link to the Developer's Library
http://developer.apple.com/referencelibrary/

The following link is a PDF file that describes Apple Core Audio.. and Midi USB Firewire etc.
