I am experiencing a strange issue with internal/external audio I am on OSX 10.3.9 I have an edirol FA 101 Firewire audio interface. It has always worked well. I rarely use internal audio Recently when playing a youtube video the audio was internal coming out of the internal speakers. This is also the case if using real player eg for playing a radio programme. however if I open audio software eg Ableton line the edirol is used. the other strange thing is that if I try to mute internal audio using f keys nothing happens. I can't get the edirol to be recognised by real player, windoes player etc. It is set up in audio preferences though. anyone else had this happen and does anyone have any suggestions. It used to work fine
thanks z

thanks z I assume the system sound preference is set to Edirol. Have you looked at the Audio MIDI setup [Apps/Utilities]? What is your system and default output set to? Check the settings under properties while you are at it. Have you checked for latest drivers for the Edirol? Ableton most likely has a separate setting for the audio interface so it would behave differently to the other apps you mention that typically use the system output.

Yes I have checked the sound preferences and all set to edirol. Not sure where properties is. I will keep looking. I have the most up to date driver from edirol. Yes I think you are right aboyt ableton and of course other music software which I use. The problem seems to be internal audio rather than the Edirol thanks for the suggestions z

Ahh these things often turn out to be something relatively simple. In searching a bit more for the properties mentioned in the post from Rookie I discovered that the sample rate was set to 96,000. It seems that a friend of mine who was here the other day changed the sample rate on the edirol. Real player et al cannot work at that rate and so automatically were not using the edirol. I reset sample rate and all is well.
Thanks for the suggestions as they got me looking a bit more carefully. cheers z
