this is for anyone that used/uses reason as well as Live!.

In reason the scream4 distortion utility has an effect called "cut" which the sound the scream4 is connected to (ala drum machine or synth) cuts above the other sounds..

is there a way to do that with Live? or perhaps a few (FREE!) distortion vst's out there? I use the camelcrusher and fuzzplus2

maybe there's a trick to it folks?

further research;

after seeing the demo from abletonguru.com with the sidechaining vst for windows

http://www.abletonguru.com/tutorial-side-chain-compression/

and realising that from what i've seen there aren't any osx vst's or au's that do the same thing...

Perhaps a sidechaining effect would be in order for the next release (assuming 6.1) ?

as i'm still a noob with Live, if anyone out there has found a way for anyone/everyone to use (as opposed to windows only) then by all means, SHOW & TELL ME
