Hi folks, biggrin.gif

I'm actualy using a nice legacy refurbished Pro tools III tdm pci on a 9600 PPC with G4 sonnet 800 mhz
one card i/o and 3 dsp farm everything run ok.
My question is : is there a easy way to migrated and upgrade to a 24bits mix or mixplus system ?
I though it was possible to do this by just swap my i/o card PTIII and replace with an used mix core card from a old mix system. is it possible ? or m'i wrong?
I don't want to go PTLE, Because of the awful lantency.
Thanks for your answer and sorry for my poor english. wink.gif

Hello there,

From what I've heard and recall from the time everyone used 24Mix is that you can use the DSP Farm cards (PCI) with a Mix Core card without problems and I think you can use both DSP Farm cards and Mix Farm cards at the same time too if you place them in this order: 1, Mix Core 2, Mix Farm 3, DSP Farm. It's the same wit the HD cards, you can use the old HD cards with HD Accel and you can even use the 888's through the legacy port on a HD system too.
You can find used Mix Core cards very cheap on ebay and maybe you can find a better G4 too, maybe a dual machine.
Hope this helps you...

Best Regards,

Andy

Many Thanks for your answer Andy !!!
but what about, if instead I prefer using internal Ide disk drive controled with a sonnet Ata 100 ?(I'm still using 9600 with upgrade G4 800mhz)

digi say :
*IDE/ATA support is limited to Powermac G3 or later models, which include a built-in ATA bus. Pre-G3 models that only shipped with SCSI have not been tested with add-on ATA/IDE controller cards.

Is the mix core card enough in order to build a 24mix system?
So to be clear my system would be (I'm not shure for card order)
1Mix core
2dsp1
3dsp2
4dsp3
5ide aTA 100
6ati 7000 radeon

If it works i'be glad because it s hard here in Belgium to find a good working expansion chassis !!
If I find a mix core card I let you know my experience !!!

Have a nice day

Hello again!

I remember this problem now when you mention it. The computer must be an at least G3 model and it's because of the busses. And now when I think about it I think the quicksilver models are to new to use so you have to have the green G3 or the blue G4 and it wont work with the PCI graphics models, it has to be AGP. Maybe the 1st generation of Quicksilver would work too, I'm not sure.

The power from just changing to a mix core card isn't going to make a huge difference from now. The biggest advance as I see it is that you can run Pro-Tools 5 in OS9 and then maybe change one DSP card at the time as they go cheaper and then maybe upgrade to PT 6 on OSX when you have enough Mix Farms.

Best,

/Andy
